that's a different/newer system called LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) introduce in 2003, it's not safer but easier to install. for cars that don't have it use the seat belt instead and the baby seat hook in the mx3 would be for the top tether.
it won't really matter for the first year ish anyways because your going to be using a rear facing car seat, the baby seat hook is really only useful for front facing seats
which btw, is your baby born already? i don't remember what the due date was
