another weird idle issue... maybe

Post by shrooms258 »

so, i recently seafoamed my tb, used the TEn and GND method to adjust the idle (went up 500rpm after cleaning) and set it to 1000 rpm. everything was normal till today, it is rainy and cool. it started fine, but when i went to drive off after about 2 mins of idle, it acted like it did when i had a bad wire. this went away after it reached normal temp. BUT now the idle sits at 1000 when i sit and idle, and if i rev it it drops to 600 briefly then returns to normal (1000). when i push the clutch it drops to 600 ish and if i rev it w/ clutch in, it stops at 1000 for a second then goes back to 600-700. when i let the clutch out, it slowly (about 10 sec) creeps back up to 1000.

can anyone tell me if this is normal behavior? or should i be :welder:ing the tb and jerry rig a carb XD

I say Gerry rigging is the best but if you don't want to go that way,

Investigate your coolant sensor...... I've heard of this being a problem with many V6 MX-3's. I am swapping my engine right now to see what happens but, its usually a vacuum problem or this stupid coolant sensor thing i read on mx-3 forums a few months back. I hope that helps.

Okay. Several sensors/solenoids control the idle.

Temp sensor
clutch switch (not starter interlock)
neutral switch
TPS
IAC valve

check all of these out and report back. its all in the manuals. I suggest page F2 103 - ISC system. (Idle Speed Control)

sorry for the long delay. the iac is my suspect. even the local mazda shop thinks that its likely the problem. and considering the $ tag on a new one, i'll live with it

Post a WTB, lots of members have spares. We need to know which manifold/throttle body you're using.
