Protege Motor and Tranny into an MX3

Post by Helton10 »

I have a 93 MX3 and the tranny is going bad and the motor is got too many miles on it, would a Motor and Transmission from a 94 Protege work in it? If not what motor and transmission would you recommend?

Don't go giving out answers like that...

If you have a v6 MX-3, then the KL v6 motor form a MX-6 is fine, but since you're suggesting a protege, I'd say he has a 4 cylinder, and hte MX-6 4 cylinder will NOT fit.

If you have a 4 cyl, the best stock upgrade is the 1.8L DOHC from a protege/escort GT. any 1.6/1.8 SOHC will bolt right in too.

All B series trans/motors interchange.

Because I need a new engine and transmission...and I was hoping to jus buy a complete car and pull it out and put them in my car...unless you know a good place to get an engine and tranny for cheap

It depends where you live.... plenty of scrap yards let you pull motors yourself. Personally, I can get an entire engine/trans/all attatched bits for <$300 if I pull it myself.

Which is exactly what you can do with a Protege...as stated in post #3. The BP or B8 or B6 from a variety of sources will bolt right in and run with relative ease. There's tons of information on 4Cyl swaps in the 4cyl FAQ section. A bit of quick readign will clarify most of your questions.

Sure... Or you could just swap for a Mack truck engine...

You may need to replace your ECU though...But, hey! Chicks dig it...

Ya, but those types of swaps aren't bolt-in and require mechanical knowhow and tools to fabricate custom parts for mounts and such.
