Cruise control take a few sec to get on??normal or not?

Post by pattheriault »

When I press the button to set the cruise on. it take like a second or two to come on so my speed drop like 5 or 10 KM/H and when it does get on my speed raise back to where I did hit the button..

is that normal on these car? if not what could be causing this?

mine does the same thing, and if i remember right, i looked it up in the owners manual and it says it should take 2-3 seconds to engage, like 2-3 seconds of holding the set button

The cruise is vacuum run so it's normal. If it were electronic then the response would be a bit quicker. The cruise system takes time to create that cable tension using vacuum pressure.

I pulled my system out as well.... more room in the bay so it doesn't look so cluttered.

I replied, but my post got deleted because I pushed the "No racing stories" boundary.
I learned my lesson.
Anyway, I like that there's a little lag, because when it kicks in (in my fast car), it puts my head back :)

I just rebuilt my CC module, and I noticed that after conditioning and cleaning the rubber inside, it still takes a second to engage, but it is less noticeable then before. If you're is taking 3 seconds to engage, check wires, clean the pinouts by the module or rebuild the module, its free unless something is broken, just needs cleaning inside!

I think you may be talking about the actuator, not the module. The module is in the passenger side kick-panel, and the actuator is in the engine bay.

Ok, I thought it was all one piece. Yes, it was in the passnger side of the engine bay right above the windshield washer bottle.
