Engine is revving?

My engine has begun to act funny. It seems to be revving on its own, and when the clutch is disengaged, it revs between 2.5 and 3 rpms, and doesnt drop to 1 like it should.<p>any ideas?<p>-Abs

does it do it in rhythm? If so you need to adjust/reset ur tps or iac. Search those terms for more information

yes it does do it rythmically, but not consitantly.<p>ive noticed that i idle at about 2rpm as it ism which seems a bit high to me. this revving thing only started last night, but so i havent had a lot of time to monitor it, but it doesnt seem consistent. for instance, i drove home from work on my break, and it was doing it. i drove back to work, and it wasnt.<p>how do i reset those things? do i need a mechanic to do it?<p>-Abs

most of the time you can do it yourself. There is a website with the full procedure on it but i cant seem to remember where on this site the link is. Its a simple procedure though and it sounds like it is what you are having problems with.

I had a similar problem a while back but it was doing it whether the clutch pedal was in or out once engine revs had dipped below a certain amount (tickover, coming to a stop, changing gear at low speeds). It turned out to be a broken throttle body. The whole unit had to replaced.
