Re: Final Notes BPD swap

One last question and then you can help someone who needs it more than me (we'll lay this discussion to rest). I noticed the only discrepencies with the BPD and B6e wiring harnesses is the throttle body connector and the fuel rail electronics connector. If I were (I have the cut wiring harness of th...

Re: Final Notes BPD swap

good deal then. I have the right ECU I am just going to have to get the wiring harness. I asked a few different places before the swap and they said the swap could be done on the same wiring harness. I guess it could be done just not as effective. I plan on turbo'ing this engine just not going to be...

Re: Final Notes BPD swap

That is just it one of the sileniods is hooked up the one to the VICS system. The other one I'm not sure what it is and to no suprise it isn't talked about in the haynes manual. I just don't think that the silenoid is working properly on the 1.6 harness since that engine didn't have the VICS.

Re: Final Notes BPD swap

Okay here is all I know about the VICS. I am still running the wiring harness of the 1.6 engine. The wiring harness didn't match up with the fuel injector wiring strip (black strip with all wires in it mounts parrallel with fuel rail) so I altered and swapped the 1.6 electronics mated to the 1.8l fu...

Re: Final Notes BPD swap

Well I can assure you it isn't my car, I parted from my cat a year ago in favor of a louder exhaust. Emissions is lax in louisiana besides they don't have the machine to test emissions in the inspection center.

Re: Final Notes BPD swap

No it doesn't happen any time in low RPM's only in high RPM's. I never seen anything like it. I am almost positive the problem resides in the fuel system.

Final Notes BPD swap

After fixing just about every problem I could locate with my BPD swap, I have one last problem. Update on what I have done so far: 1. swapped the BTD with Escort GT ECU 2. Replaced all accessories with new one, alt, starter 3. Changed all of the O-rings on the fuel injectors and ran 500 miles with f...

Re: BPD pulley system help

I appreciate all of the help you guys have offered me. I found out the problem. I called the place that sold me my engine. I ordered a 91 and the engine sent was a 93. The good part of that was it only has 35,000 miles on it. Damn thing is brand new. The engine is running but it needs to be tuned ba...

Re: BPD pulley system help

Getting the alternator is what I thought would be the simplest solution. The crank pulley and the water pump pulley use the V pulley. The alternator listed for the DOHC protege 90-95 houses the flat pulley. I cannot find an alternator for my engine with a v pulley.

BPD pulley system help

I ran into yet another problem with the engine. I had the pully system ran wrong the whole time and I just threw the alternator belt. The engine kept overheating because I didn't have the water pump belt hooked up. How do you run the belts for the BPD engine? The crankshaft pulley (inner) uses the n...

Re: BPD swap...Almost there!

One last thing I forgot. I had to pull the CV shafts, (used the same tranny from the mx) and the oil leaked out. Where do you add oil to the mx tranny?

BPD swap...Almost there!

With the help of this message board (the archives) I have swapped the BPD (91 escort GT) into the MX 3 because I am planning on a turbo project later...much later. There is a huge problem at this point that I cannot seem to fix. The vacuum schematics. I cannot find information on them anywhere even ...

Re: BPD Swap, once smooth till now!

Thank you guys for the help and as quickly as you gave it. There were two problems I fixed both of them. The timing was off and that was a major part but there was one other problem that I feel foolish about not finding. I set the firing order for the MX 3 engine and not the Protege LX. It is runnin...

Re: BPD Swap, once smooth till now!

Well I rotated the distributor while trying to crank the engine. I am not sure but I think I need to swap the injectors off the 1.6 to the 1.8 if the fuel pressure my pump is pushing isn't enough for the protege lx's. The engine is turning just not firing up. What exactly does it mean by throwing an...

BPD Swap, once smooth till now!

I am in the middle of the BDP (Protege Lx) swap in a 92 MX3. I have the engine mounted to the MX3 chassis and the wiring harness hooked up. The engine will not start. Here is what I have done: 1. Changed spark plugs and distributor, done a. spark test on block to make sure it was grounded b. done sp...
