[GI] Aluminum Pedals

Post by OROutdoors »

Hi all. I do some on the side computer work for a guy who own a metal fabrication business. He is also into cars, but American Muscle. He races Camaros on clay tracks. Anyway, I think if we had enough interest, he would be willing to give us a good deal on cutting and pressing the aluminum. He has a CNC and hydraulic presses.

So, I was thinking about getting a group buy together. I happen to have a set of the "machined series" pedals you see in this link: http://www.autovationparts.com/store/mazdamx3.html. We could use them as a template to design our own.

We'd of course need the change the size or angles, or such, change the design. I was thinking of having the pedals unfinished -- that is, you would countersink the screwholes, and polish or brush or paint or cover with non-slip, as you desire. Only thing is, the raised rim around the traction holes, I'm not sure how we could make those. But so far as cut pieces of aluminum, with a single radius bend to them, that seems easy enough to make.

Let me know if you are interested, and with mx-3.com's permission, I could put a group buy together. Wow -- do you realize that it's been years since a group buy was put together by someone?

There was a traction control GB just a few months back, I really regret not cashing in on that now...

And I'd be interested depending on the price, would it be possible to get MX-3 engraved onto them? I've seen some pretty cool covers like that before.

What do you mean by engrave? The CNC cutter is a water jet I believe, so mx-3 could be cut into the pedals but, so far as having raised or sunken letters, I don't think he would have that. The metal shop usually works with steel, and it seems they normally do cut, drill, bend, weld and galv actions. They aren't an engraving shop. Maybe a trophy shop could engrave for you?

Do you have Visio or photoshop, or such, that you could illustrate what you want?

I lack the skill to photoshop it haha.

I've seen a couple older members that have MX-3 cut/engraved/cnced or whatever into them, I think you could buy them a while back I'll look for a picture.

I don't care much for wether or not they have that so it's not a big deal to me, just exploring options.

Best picture I could find. These were sold for a number of years and had MX-3 in the centers.

I think Mark has a set. Perhaps he would be kind to take a pic for us :)
