Wants a 2.25" exhaust, need directions online??

Post by mikeetown »

I'm looking for some links online to some good bolt up exhaust systems. If I can't find one I'm just going to go to this cool garage in kelowna called fourfunction auto and get them to custom make for me.

I'm planning on using the K8, exhaust manifolds. Should I get a downpipe? is that necessary? I know i need the 2.25" piping and a resonator. I'm going to purchase a quiet muffler. I like it when ppl don't think mx3,s are fast :D and especially civics......................f---in civics lol.

Doesn't exist anymore unless you can find a MazdaSpeed or a CorkSport one, I don't remember the sizes though, but might of been only 2" (for the K8 of course)

You don't get a downpipe, you replace it and the manifolds with headers. Hard to say on a quiet muffler, but from my experience and theory, the dual-tips, although stock looking, create a resonance inside the car, but for a quiet muffler, you'd need a standard chambered one to get the quiet sound you're looking for, it won't be much of a performance one of any, but I say one recently with a flap that was closed at low flow and rerouted air inside the chambers to quiet down the sound, but it opened on high load for straight-through performance. There's even types you can control with a remote. Or you get a quiet muffler/exhaust system and you have a redirect "Y" that opens up (electrically) before the resonator to get you that loud sound. Had a buddy with one on his Turbo V8 500hp GXP. Cop in downtown Toronto turned around, he closed the redirect and it went back into the OEM exhaust system.

I had Headers with a 2.5" crush bent exhaust, No Cat, No Resonator, and a Magnaflow with a 4" tip and it was the loudest thing you've ever heard, even when I was trying to be quiet, it was still stupid loud. Those who remember it will not contest that. I'm in a neighbourhood in the early morning hours, trying to be quiet, and apparently being heard a good dozen blocks away. Or taking it easy and being quiet for a cop in front of me and an unmarked behind me pulling me over for my exhaust.

Threw in a cat, I was commented on being one of the most unique sounding, quietest exhausts with no resonance inside the car.

4 bangers do not follow the same lines for exhaust and sound.

The Xterra is right now in a similar state (headers, 2.5 mandrel bent, no cats, secondary 02 cheaters, and heavy duty muffler) and it's good except at the magical 3000rpms when it sounds like a dying trombone and it makes guys in Harleys turn their heads...not nearly as loud as the Mx3, but it's controllable and fun (but a tad much on the highway for long rides), but I plan and hope to be back in Ontario in aboot a years time, so I'll be trying to get it recatted (1 per bank) this y ear, and we'll see what it does for sound.

I'm right there with you... For the same reason I don't want to leave unpainted CF on the exterior of my car. It begs for attention, both from police and from other drivers.

I already get enough Subaru owners revving their engines at me when I drive by, because they have F&TF fever.
Bone stock Subarus, in blue or silver, all over my city... I swear, they're all Honduh converts, who swapped makes but didn't learn in the process.

Quiet exhaust FTW.

That was always part of the fun, kids coming up, thinking their all that, looking over and give them the "your not worth my time look" and make them all angry and frustrated.

I used to rev my engine right back, put on my most excited expression, and then let them floor it on their own.

It got old after a while, and only a few of them ever got pulled over in my sight...

Can't do that on the highway, and with the windows rolled up, they're not even worth the acknowledgement of rolling down the window. A change lanes *away* from the person (on a 3 lane highway of course) helps add insult to it too.

Never done that actually, either I did or I didn't...

Sometimes (when it was clear and not in town), I'd blow their doors off to shut them up, I do miss that; the 8 isn't really a stop light car at all, do miss the ZE torque once in a while.

Another 2 things I like do do what
1) There's a long 80km/h road that's a good 20km long that goes from my hometown to the next significantly larger city (Highway 140 from Port Colborne to Welland). Regular cruisng speed was 90ish for all traffic but never dared hit over 100, especially at night, cops don't allow it but won't flinch for low-mid 90. Every once in a while I'd get the jerk right on my a--, trying something or trying to pass, but it would frustrate me if I sped up for him and was edging 100. So what I would do, they would go to pass, as they were beside me passing (best part here is because they're in the mist of the pass and already accelerating at full throttle, they thought they were good to go with an obvious head start), so a quick rev match, downshift to 3rd and floor it, which would put me at equal speed to them and hault their pass, than shift into 4th to pull away. They'd fall back in and I'd slow back down. They wouldn't try the pass again, but sometimes they would (and others) would stick on my a--, which is there 2 comes into play:

2)There's a 30km ramp on to and off the 140 (and coming from a tunnel for the first one which I and people like to fly through). I'd approach those corners as fast as I could with someone on my a--, but the Mx-3 was a go-kart (and they were wide so if you knew how to take a racing corner, use the shoulders and apex it) could almost the corner speeds of those ramps, but I wouldn't hit the brake, I'd come in at a speed where I could decelerate fast enough if I (rev matched and) downshifted. They knew I wouldn't slam on my brakes (and they'd probably rear end me anyway), but it's like they were waiting on my cue when to brake, and of course, they would somehow think they they could match my cornering speed, but they'd come in wrong and too hot and just glad on their brakes, I think a few hit the curb or close to it. By the time I was out of the ramp it's like there stopped still and I was a dozen car lengths away.

Good times! 8)

I didn't know bolt-on kits were available for our exhaust! :o

Tempting, since it'd take the guesswork out of the setup. Too bad I'm dead set on 2.5" piping...

If you buy that, please post a sound clip! :D

Exactly... If it's quiet, I'll consider giving it a shot.

I still prefer to weld my own exhaust up, since I can polish and smooth the interior, to help her breathe. :welder:
