Rotor mounting bolt size?

Post by MrMazda92 »

Hey guys.

Unfortunately I had to take the drill to my rotor mounting bolts on my '93.

I need the diameter and thread pitch of the bolt, length isn't as big of a deal, but it wouldn't hurt to have it all :P

Thanks!

Hah, I've been there before... Sleep sucks, but we all need it.

I am specifically asking about the two small bolts that mount the rotor to the hub, not the lug studs. One was broken prior to my ownership, and the other required drilling to remove.

I quit using those bolts. Once they get rusted they tend to not want to come out. then the heads strip and you have to drill them out. They can be a pain. An autoparts store or the dealer should be able to tell you what they are.

What bolts do you use in their place Josh? I don't have a problem going stainless, if only I can get the dimensions -.-

Autozone wasn't helpful, but a dealer *might* be. Any chance you remember what you used to replace them?

I have never screwed the rotor to the hub. It's really only there for convenience when putting the caliper in place.

So just leave it then? Sounds kinda ghetto, but I know it won't be moving anyways.

I'll give that a shot then, thank you guys.

It's hard enough to get an old rotor off even when you don't have to drill out the screws. You've seen first hand how fun it is drilling out the screws.

+1 for not wasting your time with them. rotor is hub-centric, and the only way it will come loose is if your wheel falls off, and you've got bigger troubles then.

Ryan, why would losing a wheel while going 70 on the freeway be a bad thing? I heard that was the only way to attain true spiritual enlightenment... :(

Thanks though guys, it helps a lot. Now I just need to drill out the caliper bracket bolts, without ruining the caliper bracket itself... Yay me.

Yeah I had having to drill out bolts, but if you do it right it feels so good.

I felt amazing when I drilled out the broken lug stud on my '93. The bit was 100% perfectly sized, and I lined it up amazingly... Shocked myself, tbh.
