4 CYL Cold Air Intake Questions???

Post by the_twig_187 »

So hers the skinny...i have a make shift cold air intake on my 4CYL MX-3. what I mean by that is, I have the stock plastic intake tube from the TB to the MAS, After the MAS I have a piece of aluminum tubing which sends the intake behind the driverside headlight into that little pocket where the old air intake box used to be.

Becuase we have 2 vaccume hoses running off the air intake just before the TB, I cant seem to find a ebay cold air intake that has the same "bungs" for the vaccume lines. I know the 1st vaccume line (the smaller of the two) goes to the PVC inlet on the valve cover. The second (bigger vaccume line) I have no clue what it is for or where it goes?

My Questions:
(1) does anyone know what that Bigger vaccume line is?
(2) does anyone know how I can get a hold of a intake tube with the correct "bungs" for our vaccume lines? (p.s. I relocated my battery to the trunk so fitment issues are a non-factor...lots of room)

Thanks always for the advice
Chris

The one that goes to the rocker cover is just a breather, so if you were to fit one of these>

that means you only have one connection to make, so you could use this>
A dump valve 'T' piece.

or if you want to keep both connections, get one made up, most silicone hose
producers would help you with that, or get another connection welded on the alu/steel dump valve 'T' piece?

Back in the day, I drilled a hole in the pipe and fit it with a rubber grommet then a double ended male fitting.

Thanks for the info guys...much appreciated

Josh- where did you get the bent aluminum tubing you used for the air pipe? It looks like its custom snaked to run between the battery and engine? Did you get the tubing from a metal depot? Canadian tire? Home depot? Ebay?

Thanks again

there are kits for our cars out there. If you used the search function, you would have found out that some years of the prelude will fit. Try searching in the future please. Something like this has been talked about for years.

Actually, this was made far before any manufacture made an aftermarket intake for our cars besides PRM. It was made from a one piece integra cold air intake. I chopped it up, the bends worked perfectly had to add an extra hole in it but other than that was piece of cake.

I have since copped it up even more for cold air for the Turbo inlet :)

there is a decent kit on ebay that most get.
