Spare Parts; How Much is Too Much

Post by Daninski »

Ok I'm curious, just how many spare parts should we hold and at what point are things out of control. Right now I have.
1 spare KLZE (includes one of those expensive Unorthodox Under-drive Pullies,,,red.
2X MTX Trans
4 Disties. 3 OBD1 1 OBD2
3 VAFs 2 JE50, 1 KL02
1 Newish Alt
2 PS Pumps, 1 reservoir.
1 A/C compressor
1 Rad
1 Rad Fan a--.
4 ECU 1 OBD2, 1 94, 2 92, 1 93 (for chipping)
All Lights X2
Front Seats Black.
Black door Panels.
Both window Glass
Both window power window units, 2 power window DS switches
Timing belt parts, belt tensioners, Antiknock sensor, other sensors, etc
94+ wheels 4. Front strut bar. Spare front and rear brake calipers and rotors.
And on and on and on.
I need to catalog my stuff
I am sending things to the dump like front struts etc, I may take the strut mounts off them first.
I don't have spare timing covers cuz they're always cracked and broken. :(

Question is, at what point does it get stupid. I know I'm running out of places to store stuff. I may need to build another shed. Anyone else in this predicament?

Yeah I have an entire spare engine, two G series transmissions, extra hatch glass and enough spare this and that
to keep the car going for a long long time.

What I dont have is interior parts.

The sad thing is ive had a for sale page, its even linked in my sig, with things that I dont
need and I see people posting up want to buy / need part xyz without checking through
all the for sale stuff. I mean granted its alot to read through but :P

When it comes down to how many parts you need, your the only one who knows for sure.

We had about eight spare cars minus the main bodies in the shop, I'm talking everything from the car. About 2 months ago we threw out a whole bunch of parts and kept about three of everything. Man is there still alot of parts in the shop, as well I have about two complete parts cars in my house minus the main bodies......lots of parts.

Yes I advertised a JE50 VAF for $25 and then someone was asking $50 and was getting hits. I don't understand it either.

I have a whole building dedicated to parts... the old chicken coop.

front bumper, rear bumper, seats, full interior, fender.

Then I have a mechanical parts shelf. A/C compressor, 24v DOHC valvecover, timing stuff, disties and HEI stuff, ball joints, end links, hatch struts, trailing arms, sunroof visor(3 total) wraparound, spare tire cover (copies made from real wood). On and on... thats just some from memory

And then there's my bolts/little parts. Oh my gosh. Bolts.

Everything you could ever want. Literally. 5+ baby hooks, mud guard hardware, spoiler hardware, 20+ interior clips, hardware to hold on any OEM part, brand new O2's, solenoids out the bum, badges, bulbs, grommits and caps, and on and on and on... two or three pails solid full. Bolts from two disassembled K8's.

then there's my scrap/tires.

two transmission cases, two engine blocks, four heads, many aluminum brackets, at least two intake manifolds, and valve covers and stuff (for scrap) and one set of cheap all seasons, one set of winters, and then 3 spare 14" honeycombs (scrap) and one wrecked aluminum rim I found in the ditch (scrap)
And then a 40 gallon drum full of little steel garbage parts that would poke holes in garbage bags.

Pretty much, I disassembled my old RS to the point where nothing else could be bolted off.

And instead of stashing it all, I've decided to start putting the nice parts on my car... screw selling it, I want nice stuff too. vent visors are next to go on the black car, and my hatch shade if I can find it, then its OEM'd to the nads.

I like how it is a warehouse :).

All I have is a ZE built with a transmission and ready to go in, just need to put the timing covers back on as well as the ditsy, pulleys and belts, all the stuff with that such as the starter, alternator, ect. My oem shift linkage, and a spare hood. Maybe someday I can make it to warehouse level...

:crying: This brought back memories of all those EDM parts I had that I had to get rid of before I left Germany....
What I had:
K8 Intake Mani
Je50 VAF
KL01 VAF
Red Hood
White USDM Fenders
Full Carpet
2 Front seats
Full Back Seat
USDM Headlights
Orange Corners
GS Lip
K801 ECU
Headliner
Radiator Support Braket
Radiator with Fan
4 Valve Covers
2 full sets of OEM GS Wheels and tires
2 Full sets of front and rear mud guards
Euro Fogs
Euro and USDM Steering wheels
euro tow hook
Red hatch
Driver and Passenger Red doors
Stripped down KL Block
......... and that's just a couple of the things I had to get rid of..... :|

Now the only extras I have is a set of K8 injectors with rails etc, GS lip, mini sides, front muds, and a few bits and pieces here and there...the few parts I managed to smuggle in my house hold goods have somehow dissappeared since I've gotten back from Afghanistan.... :dunno:
1992 MX3 GS (My Project Toy)
K8DE, see web site...too many mods to list, but still growing.
2006 Dodge Durango (The Family-Mobile)
Every time you race a Honda Civic, a kitten kills a retard.

Considering how a lot of the parts are hard to get a hold of now, I can't blame you at all for keeping a stockpile of them.

Better to have and not need, than to need and not have....
