The previous owner of my mx-3 several years ago had a sub in the car. I'm going to be putting one back in soon, but I wanted to ask something first. In my trunk under the carpet, there's this thing:
Is this relevant to my stereo system? The wires attached to it run towards the front, so I'm assuming its related to it. If not, what is this thing?
it looks like there was a coaxial cable connected to it? i dont know of any systems that use a screw in coaxial and the other plug i cant really get a good look at but looks like a harness plug. if you could unplug them and send more pics of the plugs and the input i might be able to tell ya what it is. i want to say it may be a signal booster. due to the coaxial cable.
It only takes a single voice to start a revolution
the only thing in your car that would be coax is the AE. That might be a booster, either way... you don't need it. just make sure your deck works with out it.
Is there a sticker or model number on the bottom? or anywhere on it? I would guess its some 2way/mobile phone system booster. There should be no stereo equipment that uses coax cable. Is there a antenna on the car besides the am'fm one.
No, no sticker or anything. I just talked to the previous owner and he mentioned an alarm system the car used to have, so maybe it has something to do with that?
Looks a lot like a police radio I've worked with, but was pulling them out since it was legacy equipment we were replacing. It'll come to me, but it's not a GE, I'm pretty sure it's not a Motorola, so trying to remember which ones those were. I think it was a M/A-COM
It had 2 leads cause one was power, and the other ran to a control head up front.

deffanately not an amp does i would pull the radio out of the dash and see if there are any wires attached to it that resemble the ones coming from that box it looks to me like it would be an over the shoulder part when working on your car lol. Maybe its a black box and you get the pay channels lol

It looks like a old style cell phone module..the coax line if i am right is going somewhere towards a window somewhere , where there usto be a antenna that may still be there or was cut off and hiding somewhere in the car..the rest goes to the front for power and to the mount that is been removed if you dont see anything? trace the cables and that is most likely what it is?
I have been a custom car audio professional for 18 years and seen those many times before...if i am right about what it is without seeing the whole car and where the cables go ?

he could have wired his Radio antenna to a signal booster for something else to get increased radio reception. but their's only one way to find out...
