My Son just bought an 02 Subaru Impreza

Post by Daninski »

So my son just bought an Impreza after having me research them. I have to say the all wheel drive is something I think we all would like to have. I joined the NASIOC web site so I could access as much info on the car as I could. I couldn't believe the hits that site gets. After only 10 mins I had to go back two pages to find my post. Never new Subaru's were so popular. It's a 2002 bought from an original owner with all the maintenance reports available. I know the after market stuff available for the car is something we could probably be envious of. I'm tempted to sell my MX-6 and find an Impreza just for the AWD or at least to say I own a car like Ken Block's. Comments

Well I guess on the positive side it's not a turbo. He's wanted a car he cold do some stuff to but not to the extreme. Sound system, body, wheels and possibly some window tint, Right now he's working part time and taking welding courses. Funny, no ones mentioned the head gasket issue.

The tranny is glass, other than that they are good cars. And its an Impreza, not Impressa.

They're good cars stock as long as hes not modding it. The stock tranny is very weak and if he decides to mod it hes going to have to swap in an STi transmission first. I've been thinking of getting one for a daily driver so I dont have to drive my RX7 as much anymore, my only problem is resisting the temptation to mod it.

Thanks, my son isn't a speed nut so I think he's ok there. I know he'd like to do the stereo, he needs wheels and tires and I suggested maybe some window tint. We'll do a body job in the spring and I think I now have a place to spray. Anyway both he and his mom said the corner handling was fantastic and very quick with the 2.5 I think I want one now. All wheel drive in the snow is sweet.

I've got a friend with a 2.5 non-turbo, be bought the car brand new I think would of been in 05 or 06, he just replaced the motor a few months ago because of a spun rod bearing. Drivetrain isn't strong, so if he's thinking he can just bolt up a turbo on it afterwards it don't work.

Nice cars, kinda thought about getting one, but I wanted RWD, and my one ex would kill me if I got one. I do love 4x4 in the snow, unless I'm drifting of course ;).
