The K8 bore is 85mm vs. 84.5mm of the KL (yes, awkward as it sounds the smaller engine has a bigger bore). The difference is the stroke.
The 1.8 and 2.0 V6 rods are itty bitty, worse than the 2.5. Ive compared them side by side. It would self destruct much easier, and that's pretty sad seeing how easy the KL rods bend and break....

04 GSXR 600 - -1/+5, stand up wheelie machine. 01 YZ250
95 PGT: 87k... 18" wheels, tokico struts and springs... SLOW
so, i always thought the K8's would be stronger than KL's at high revs (5000 - 7500 rpm).

Re: something interesting on K-series
Mike: that information is wrong. The K8 has a bore of 75 mm, not 85, and a stroke of 69.6mm.
The KF (2.0L) has a bore of 78mm, and the same stroke as the K8.
The KL has a bore of 84.5mm, and a stroke of 74.2mm.

Re: something interesting on K-series
Yep Inodoro is right, my sources also indicate it's 75mm x 69.6mm for K8
84.5mm x 74.2mm For the KL
Also when rebuilding my engine and having a spare K8 short block next to it, the pistons on the K8 look very tiny.

Re: something interesting on K-series
When comparing my ZE and K8 pistons side by side, I would also have to definately agree K8 are 75 and KL are 84.5

Re: something interesting on K-series
I wonder if it is a mistake and they were looking at or measuring 4 banger parts... odd to be so confident and so off at the same time...

That's not odd at all, I think that's how countless misconceptions happen on forums... someone sounds like they know what they're talking about when the have no clue.

Re: something interesting on K-series
I have to say that, more than odd, I find it...sad...PATDIESEL wrote:I wonder if it is a mistake and they were looking at or measuring 4 banger parts... odd to be so confident and so off at the same time...
There's no need to measure anything to get the right numbers. I didn't measure anything.
Just a 10 second google, and I found what I was looking for here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_K_engine
...and here:
http://www.tsentraal.ee/mx6/engine/SAE920677.htm
...and I'm pretty sure that, had I not been satisfied, I could have found many more sources for the same data.
I agree with Ryan. That looks a lot more like the work of somebody who didn't have a clue what he was talking about, and didn't care to check his information before posting it, than somebody making just an honest mistake.
