Josh's AWD Worklog

Post by Josh »

So after being on a hiatus for the past couple of years, going through flight school and all sorts of life stuff. Here are some old pics, and some new ones. I will have more in the near future to follow as I tear her down and rebuild it from the ground up.

Pics of the old AWD conversion

The 1930cc motor build

The BIG a-- cams that make many think that my mx has a 4.6L in it.

What the old turbo set up looked like, with this set up i was putting down about 230hp to the wheels.

so Here are my most recent pics, this is of my body mock up to see what spoiler i want to go with, along with the US sides and JDM front bumper and lip (JDM front bumper not depicted in pic).

Image
Now keep in mind that the sides are not fastened and neither is the front lip. This spoiler is a wrap around that i am extending into a drag spoiler. Still on the fence
Image

This is the small lip i have been running with for a long time now
Image
Image
OK now the new one im trying to make a decision on. Either the drag style or the lip with the Mazda Speed spoiler??? Just keep in mind that its not bolted on so it does look alittle funny, weird angle and sitting alittle higher than it would.

Any Thoughts?

I think you should use the mazdspeed spoiler and sell the drag wraparound to me! :D

you've got a ton of sick rare parts man... I'm glad you decided to quit hiding in the woods and show us what you have! Looking forward to seeing the car in person, soon!

Seriously dude...where have you BEEEEEEN????

Your stuff from 5 years ago was my major inspiration for getting really deep in the MX-3 scene. I honestly thought you had just left the MX-3 world and moved on. I’m so glad that you’re finishing your build. I can’t wait to see everything you’ve done.

1. Find someone to duplicate those side skirts. Fiberglass is acceptable.
2. What does that carbon fiber piece go to?
3. Where did you get the ground controls from? Are the sleeves notched out?
4. I deffinatey like the wrap around best.
5. We need a smiley for bowing down.
Took the bp+t out of the mx and swapped it into a 95 escort wagon. ;)

Awesome Rare Parts.... I think i need to wipe the drool off my keyboard now. And normally Ild say use the wraparound spoiler to keep the performance look but with all those rare goodies that mx3 deserves that mazdaspeed wing. And ditto on pox, make us some fiberglass duplicates! that would be awesome!

Josh, what struts are you gonna be running with those ground controls?

I would say the MS spoiler actually doesnt look that bad on your car, but overall I would go with a stock garnish :P

Actually inspirational. How's the gearbox holding up? I like the mazdaspeed wing best. I'd love to see this car let loose on a gravel car park, or a really wet day :D

Thanks for all the comments guys. I’m siding with the MS spoiler as well. So the drag spoiler might just be up for grabs when I finish fiber glassing it. The car has been down for 3 years now, took all the electronics off my car to help a buddy get his turbo mx up and he ran with the parts, so it’s been down. Car accident, 4 knee surgeries, going to flight school...... goes on and on thus the reason I haven’t been around. BUT NOW IM BACK!

hopefully the car will be up soon still have some parts to source out and im going to be remounting the drive system rear end drive shaft and im going to refab the rear motor mount. I have a BIG brake conversion that im working on with 2nd gen RX-7 4 piston calipers. Lots of stuff to follow. Thanks for all the support it will be amazing when im done.

The trans is holding up fine. although im debating a rebuild, found a forged gear set for 4K, not sure if I want to push it yet.
