New to mx-3s

Post by Prowler450 »

Hi, my name is Jordan I recently bought a 1993 mx-3 gs 5 speed for 500 bucks. So far I've replaced a tranny mount and fuel pump. This is my first car, and I have found that just lightly pushing the throttle causes this tiny beast to jump into race mode. I'm really wanting to start tuning and improving my little cars performance and look. Next is paint ( chips scratches small rust spots ) then motor work. The only problem is I'm not sure if I should build the 1.8 or look into a swap. I'm broke 18 with a job makin 7.25 an hour so is there anything reasoninbly cheap that I could do or start saving for to improve performance? Please reply any and all help thanks

Do paint later, thats my advice. Peronally, I'd rather have bite than bark.

7.25? What do you do? We make better wages than that in Canada flipping burgers. But thats Canadian dollars, so you're probably making the equivalent of like 22/hr CAD.

Any modification you'll be doing down the road involving V6's engine wise, will all interchange and benefit from cold air intake (not warm air intake) and exhaust.

Also, if I were you, I'd spend some time enhancing the quality of the car. teardown the interior, clean it up, replace all the broken stuff, maybe install a bit of sound deadening material... You'll be much happer with it.

Most people abandond the stock motor and swap directly for a KLDE (probe/mx6 motor) or a KLZE, a jap motor. research lots, you'll find a million things.

Read through the V6 FAQ found on the index page.

Well I'm a cashier at a grocery store. I was thinking about fabricating my own cold air. I'm in school and take welding. And im trying to find a full exhaust ( headers down) for a reasonable price. And ya the bite is what I love also. I'm in south Carolina USA and struggling wit money but my car (which happens to be my first car) is my baby and I can't wait to it in the works. If you have any places online or otherwise that has full exhausts for reasonable or whatever price please let me know.

If you're a welder, are you any good with tig? you could probably buy sections, drop your exhaust, and make your own copy.

Cashier, kudos. I couldn't do that job.

Welcome to the forum. Every question you come up with is here (most likely). Just use the search button under the MX-3 on the top of the page. Good luck!

don't google, weld an anti-drop bracket, or drill one in.
