Installed VW New Beetle type radio antenna
Just forward of the sunroof, only possible spot! I'll try to post pictures tomorrow, if there's interest. I seem to recall the Mazda 3 has a similiar antenna.
I don't like off-center antennas, like the stock one. The are by nature directional, and some stations come in better on the way to work, than on the way home, and visa-versa.

Re: Installed VW New Beetle type radio antenna
What'd you do with the old hole? weldover, body, and paint? I thought the antenna was a very specific length, and not too bendy...

Re: Installed VW New Beetle type radio antenna
LoL I'll have to take pics later but basically the antenna is still there just under the roof (between the headliner and metal body, so it's totally invisible) and it's been shaved off to look like there was never anything there.
Re: Installed VW New Beetle type radio antenna
I see.....
I was thinking possibly doing something like this... but idk, might be too much

Re: Installed VW New Beetle type radio antenna
it's been done before.. i think gro used to have one. doesn't look bad, but shaved is better IMO
Re: Installed VW New Beetle type radio antenna
That CF one is just for decoration, its not an actual antenna... But I think it can be used as a cover just for an antenna..... plus its like $65 just because its real CF

Re: Installed VW New Beetle type radio antenna
Actually, I've done nothing, yet, other than retract it. Initially, I plan a simple plate screwed down. If/when I paint the car, I will recess the edges and braze a plate flush.Ryan wrote:What'd you do with the old hole? weldover, body, and paint? There is no specific ideal length, the wavelengths for AM alone vary more than 2:1, and FM is radically shorter. The new antenna includes a signal amp, which makes up in part for it's smaller size, and hence smaller capture window.
Re: Installed VW New Beetle type radio antenna
so, any pictures? updates?
