RS door locks, weird or stock?

Post by Braver »

So i recently bought an Mx-3 1996 RS, at first I thought the locks were broken cuz everytime i locked it and closed the door it would unlock, then my dad told me to hold the door handle while locking it, that locked it, also locking it from the outside locks it
is this normal?

Yeah that's normal. Mine confused me when I first bought the car, but I don't have to worry about that any more since I got an alarm with keyless entry that locks my doors.

there's some type of design behind the locks. I haven't tested it out myself, but it might be so you don't lock yourself out of your car? I dunno, sometimes it locks, if you leave it alone for a bit, but it could be just my imagination.

if it locks after a while, that'll b great, guess ill test it out but i doubt it does cuz right now i have to lock both sides manually from the outside (or lock the passenger door wen its closed and lock driver's from outside)

240sx's are the same way.. its kinda like a safety mechanism... like "Last chance to check your car before you lock yourself out"

you have to hold the door handle open, close the door, than let go.

or else it unlocks itself.

Completly normal dude.

It's supposed to make you think more about locking the door so you don't lock your keys inside, it work in the beginning but now it's just a reflex for me so it's pointless, and annoying if you don't tell passengers about it and they leave the door unlocked.

Normal, and a good idea in theory.

I've still locked my keys in the ignition twice, both times I stood there, in that "oh s---" moment, with the door fully closed and still holding the handle up.

Also, you have to wait for passengers to get out, reach across and lock it, and then get out yourself.

i agree.. keyless ftw.

I never forget my keys in the car because I get out and press the button on my keys to lock the door... and if I forget the keys, I realize it when I try to lock the door.

I don't even understand how people do this. For me it's an automatic thing once I turn off the car I take out the keys and they're in my hand.

Ya, the 626 had that as well too.

Indeed, once you go keyless, it's pretty impossible to lock you're keys in your car, especially with the "dummy lock" on the Mx-3's

Personally, it's saved me a few times from accidentially bumping the door closed, or the wind...

I often leave my keys in my car. Its a tolerable habit out in the country, as people leave farm machinery in the middle of fields with the keys in it....

if you walk onto any random yard, you'll finda t least one vehicle with the keys in it.

too bad installing power locks is so expensive, feel like a bum when telling a girl to lock the door when she gets out
