Respect for your fellow MX-3'er

One of the reasons I don’t like ProbeTalk (and most other forums actually) is because every time someone asks a question on the mundane side or a newbie asks a question which tends to illustrate a lack of general knowledge or willingness to help his/herself the other members exhibit a sort of shark-like mentality. They smell the blood of easy prey and it gets pretty harsh more often than not. I agree that some people are lazy and need a smack once in a while, but I am starting to sense a change for the worse in the tone of our forum and I don’t like it.

I spend my internet time very judiciously. This forum is the place I think of as home and I would like it to continue to be my home. But if the tone of hostility continues to rise I think I will be spending less and less time here. I have enough negativity in my life.

I think we need to take a step back as a group and try harder to rise above the typical internet forum mentality. It’s pretty easy to treat people with respect...even when they annoy you.

I'm usually one to flame or burn someone that just shows there complete zero lack of actually wanting to do anything for themselves. I don't do it anymore, I just ignore the post.

Personally I can see where flaming the noobs is bad, who would want to stay on a website where you get bashed constantly? But coming on a forum and asking not so much dumb questions but "Hey I'm lazy, I want to mod my car but don't want to spend 5 mins to search, so I'm just going to ask anyway questions" it gets old and can be tedious. Some people on this forum help even with these types of questions, Some get smart and tell them to use the search function, and others just straight bash/flame. I mean some of the questions on here that are asked are really bad, some show me that you didn't even search google to see what it yielded.

If someone steps out of line or gets rude, please flag the post and it'll be taken care of. If its just getting the typical noob response then I don't see a problem with it, yes you should respect your fellow MX-3'er but not all respect is given it has to be earned. Coming on the site and your 1st question is where do I find a CAI, well this tells me that this person has a very high chance of being a tool. Now if they came on the site and said something more like "Hey I checked out the main site and found the part numbers to the CAI made for the mx-3 but I can't seem to find a vendor or a place to get one can anyone help out?" This is a totally different question and would yield a better answer, because this person at least used the site at 1st to try and find his answer.

Some bashing/flaming is going to happen, but if it gets out of hand someone flag it and we'll clean it up if we see fit, and will take the necessary measures to try and prevent it again. As mods we try and to look over everything but we can't always see every thread or every post, so if you guys see something that shouldn't be happening then let us know, your part of the site too, and if you want change then it has to be made with everyone's help.

I get mad when people use NO punctuation or grammar, then complain when people tell them to use proper English if they want help.

Other than that, I agree, it's very nice to have a friendly community.

I don't know if people see the sticky's, or read the forum rules. But I do think that the admins keep pretty good care of this site. I know that I'm still learning, and I think that maybe the single reason I'm yet to be flamed is because I search and have somewhat proper grammar. However we do have a freedom of speech and there are people out there who use their anonymity to bring down the calibre of this site. I'd hug my monitor, but I'm on a laptop and If my wife walked in that'd look really weird.

I couldn't agree more. Of course you can expect a noob to not be familiar with the site, and to miss some things, but on the other hand you have members that aren't noobs (I mean, a person with 20 posts is not precisely a "veteran", but they should have a basic idea, at least) and are making questions a 10 second google can answer.
That in my opinion happens because of 2 things: first, because some people are just lazy. No way around it. And second because of the post counter for each member. Some people inevitably will post anything to increase that number. I've seen it on other forums, and it always acts by lowering the average post quality.
If nothing else, something that I think speaks volumes about this forum and the quality and intelligence of most its members is the restraint most of us show, even with that feature on.

Like everything, there are 2 sides to this, but personally I love this forum just the way it is. However, I refuse to hug my monitor, on the grounds that it doesn't hug me back.

Haha, we're still noobs. But it's truly a testament, as I've stated before, to how the members on this site are. You could have said STFU or GTFO but you didn't. As a mod you're already averse to the conduct expected, but you're still human. This is by far the site I frequent most. I'm sure if my wife didn't know any better she'd think that this was a porn site because of how many times I visit. I was raised with the "respect and be respected" way of life, why shouldn't that extend to how I conversate with all of you?

I really like being on this forum. Its the only one I'm active on. All the other forums I'm apart of (tccoa, v6power.net, jbody.org, club cav,) just to name some...I just SEARCH for my answers, never post, and look at pretty car pictures/worklogs.

The environment/atmosphere here is nice and inviting. Some of us have been getting carried away a bit (myself included at times). I guess new members just need to learn that this forum is run different than most? We believe in finding answers for ourselves, not having them spoon fed to us. Most general knowledge questions are answered somewhere on these forums already, but why don't new members want to go looking for themselves? Only they can answer that question...

In all Honesty I don't really consider noobism by post count. Its really about age (sitewise) and how you conduct yourself. We've got some guys that are still newish but I wouldn't call them noobs Heck I'm a noob on my is300 forums lol...
