screws stripped

Does anyone know the size of the screws that hold the rotor plates on to the hub? i stripped mine and im getting ready to extra.ct them also if some one knows how to usea extractor<go ahead make fun of me> please tell me how to because ive never done it

i doubt an extractor will work. when those are in, they are usually in there real good. a lot of us choose not to replace those bolts because they are pointless and they suck

they actually have to come out in order to change the rotor.

Sounds like you may be drilling them out!

Are you using the reverse thread drill out extractors? Those have worked well for me at times. Those rotor bolts are going to be tough though. Use some WD40, a few taps with a hammer, maybe heat and you might be lucky.

i used literally a whole can of wd40 on it lol. they are reverse thread extractors my only worry is once i get them out if the threads that the screw goes in will be damaged. and how to prevent this from happining again.

Just drill them right out and don't replace them. The clamping force of the wheel nuts holds the rotor against the hub surface so there's absolutely no need to have those screws in place. Normally with the extractor you would drill the center of the fastener to the size recommended by the extractor maker for that size bolt and extractor. Then use the extractor and a wrench or whatever to remove the fastener. In this case use a drill bit the same size as the shank of the screw and drill it out completely...so there is literally no screw left. The caliper will hold the new rotor loosely in place, then once the wheel is back on it'll be just fine.

Some rebuilt/maintained callipers, decent pads, SS brake lines, good fluid and a bleed keep most people happy.

Bigger can be better if done well, but really not necessary. Having said that, I plan on upgrading to Miata brakes in the nearish future.

Those 3 screws don't hold the rotor, they're behind the rotor. The rotor is usually just rusted onto the lug-nut studs.

Unless there are two different styles for the disks.

We are talking about the rears right? The front ones aren't screwed in either though.

Not sure what you are talking about with 3 screws... there are 2 big fat philips head screws that hold the rear rotors in place. Most people don't replace them since the philips head can strip easily...

Those screws must have already been removed then in my donor GS because the rotors just came off with a good vibration.

There are 3 screws (I believe phillips heads) when you remove the rotor. I think they go into the spindle, haven't looked too closely yet.

thank you for helping, i have come to the conclusion that these screws are highly useless and im gonna just drill them out.
