Yeah, there was a guy on here that had a beautifully painted engine, and bay with anodized stuff... I recommended that he make a hood out of Lexan. Find a vacuum former nearby, or a place that deals in high end plastics (a place that make skylights), and see what they'd charge. The Polycarbonate would cost about $120, and shaping it would cost about $150.

I've thought about this idea, but you'd have to clean it SO often. Engines just have an oily heat that comes off of them, and lots of muck gets up through the engine bay, and the hood sees ALL of the bugs that the bumper misses... not to mention engines get hot, and headers get hotter.

May as well just not have a hood. Maybe cool on a show car.

I thought about doing that aswell!..... Then my phone rang... it was the yr 2001 calling telling me they wanted there hood back if I made one.
I remember civics back in the day having them alot, but I would only reccomend it on a fully built show car or it just looks silly!

If you're still talking about clear, the best would be Markalon. If it's a driven car, you'll either have to make it really thick, or brace it. It starts to bend at about 200°
