93vtecklr's 93 GS-SE

Post by 93vtecklr »

Well, I've owned the car for aobut 3 years now, and figure I'd show some pics as to how it got to this point. Since I'm on layoff now and on a budget it's time to become a do-it-yourselfer. Still fairly noob-ish so forgive my misgivings with information and screwups haha... Please reply with any comments, questions, criticisms, etc... Here we go...

So I'm sure that y'all have heard about my 3 accidents in the winter. One of them was my fault, so I bought a wrecker hood, it was originally red, but splashed and dashed purple. I got bored one day and.....
Image
So after the two weeks of driving around thinkin, ya, "I'm the sh*t, up in this b**ch" I got absolutely sick of it. Not to mention that was during the whole body shop debacle so I wanted to make my car appear as though it was deserving of respect. So the night before the meeting with the body shop's owner I ripped the hood off, leaned it against my shed and....
Image
Oh, a side note, do you think this is passable at a body shop? Burn through much?!?!?
Image
And yes before you ask, those signals are my worklog entry for tomorrow.... Before I get hounded for it :crying:

I know man, I did that back when I wanted everything to be red. But was like, what the hell do I need to prep it for? The next day it looked like feces. I'm gonna sand it all down, mask where the light shines and re-do the rest. Will post pics, hope it looks aiiiight

Hey y'all, I decided to clean my car up a bit. I want to take it to three hills saturday since my datsun won't be ready in time. So that leaves me a day and a half to gut my hatch, replace all clips, and find all the missing panels.... And re-do my audio. Since I haven't even seen the carpet in there for two years, this could be Indiana Jones territory...
After cleaning it up and removing 2 bags of trash, numerous articles of clothing, and getting rid of all the spare tire crap. This is a rough mockup so please be patient, and remember, this is the first time I've ever done an audio setup.
Image
Cut the holes for the cables to creep through.

Glamour shot of the freshly swept interior.
Image
And the finished product, let me know what you think..
Image
I think I'm almost ready for the show.... And savin, I think you'd find that my signals are now 'savi' They're not finished yet but I think you get the idea!
Image
Oooooh, black leather....
Image
Haha, ever wondered what $54,000 in chrome looks like? Me on my dad's Harley FX DWG! Could you see me rollin one of these bad boys?
Image

More to come tomorrow as I finish the signals, and I'm thinking about an LED wall for the 3rd brakelight?

So, as I was tracing an idle issue I thought I'd check the spark plugs and leads. WOW. All was well and good until I checked the last one near the TB. As I pulled the lead out I heard a splash. Literally a splash! I fouled the plug with all the oil by now and I guess there's no better time than the present to get those outlaw spacers I've been putting off on buying. So as soon as I get the new IM gaskets and the new valve cover gasket I'll put up a step by step pictorial for all us noobs! I wouldn't doubt if this crap takes me 2 days. At least now I can put on my spare IM that I've polished, paint that valve cover, and the fuel rails. I'm pretty sure that painting the IM is a bad idea, because doesn't the engine enamel act as an insulator? I want it all to stay nice and cool, although I think a black IM with the red valve cover and fuel rails would just look sexy!!!!

Turns out it is easier to search haha!
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=54717&start=0&hili ... ld+removal
I'll be using that as a reference while I work on the car. As to my prior predicament, I still have my tired K8 out back and started to rip parts off of it. It's now sundown so there's a time limit, trying to stay organized though. I prepped and painted a couple IM parts with some black engine enamel (parts off the old engine) and will install them tomorrow during the day. My experiment is this, if in the week that I wait for the Outlaw spacers the paint on those parts doesn't fade or flake then I will paint the rest of the other IM. My next post will have the pics of what I did tonight, and some glamour shots for Savin of my signals haha, told you I'd do them!

Looking good!
I'm looking forward to seeing it finished..
So, did you reduce the paint on your turn signals with clear? I'd like to see them cleaned up.
I've always wanted to see someone do that with a color (not black). I "smoked" all my lights on my RV with silver without inhibiting their visibility. It looks smooth.
You're going to like having your power back, when you change the VC gaskets, and put in the Pheno spacers.

Actually for now I just wet sanded all the cracked stuff out, and where the light shines through. Then buffed the crap out of it with Meguiars Plast-X, the same stuff I use for my headlights. I plan on re-doing it again, I really want an O.E. look to it with a custom touch. Thanks for the comments Jesse!
