help with seized ex mani nut. RESOLVED

Post by RS_OBD'oh_2 »

not sure if anyone has seen my log or not. I'm having issues removing a nut on my exhaust manifold. It's the lower-far left nut. I've managed to round it off with the impact gun and I don't seem to have much room to work with, in order to cut it up one side. Any ideas? I drenched it in liquid wrench several times and torched it pretty good with a heatgun. Not luck yet.

This is what I am working with:

I'm thinking the stud is going to be a lost cause and that I'll have to cut it off.

wost case scenario zip it off and drill out the stud and use a larger one.

If you rounded it out, that sucks. hard to get at with any tool anyway. I'd cut it off and work with the stud.

You're not using the stock manifold are you? I would pull that bracket off and then I think you'd have enough room to get a dremel tool with a cutting wheel on the side of the nut. You don't have to cut all the way through the nut. If you can get a healthy notch int he side and then whack it with a cold chisel it should come off.

If you don't have a dremel tool...you should get one. Everyone should have a dremel. Everyone.

I do have a dremel. but I went out and got a right angle die grinder with a diamond cut off wheel. I guess I'll keep at it. Thank you guys.

I don't know how safe it would be to go at it with a blow torch. But a blow torch and vice-grips can do wonders.

after you cut the nut off you can go to your local tool supplier and get a stud remover. works wonders!!

I had a diamond cut off wheel.. that just didn't do it. So I took out the ol' die grinder and a steel bit.. took off half the nut in 2 mins. Then I hit it with an air hammer. Didn't take long after the air hammer.

Thanks to every one who helped out!
