no, k8 trans is too short for drags, on a fast car you'll need 5th and 1st gear is pretty much useless.

K8 trans so far for me was great for autocross, and it could be used for circuit if you don't need to go faster than 240km/h

Forgive my ignorance but a few years back we knew a few things and things we knew was at the end of the 1/4 mile your should be about to hit your red line. That way your gearing is set to maximize your engines RPM's. So in that case wouldn't the K8 tranny be good?

Yes, that is right, but I've redlined in 4th and I've onl really ran 15's, but a few times, probably on slicker tracks, I've had to use 5th....

Ya 5th blows like 3rd in a 3 speed tranny. Meant for fuel economy I think not performance. So what do we do.

For what I've been told and actually seen, you actually top out in 3rd rather than 4th with the 4.11:1. I've heard mixed stories about people being quicker with the 4.39 and others with the 4.11, so it's hard to say, but I believe that the 4.38 would be too short.

if your topping out 4th in the 1/4 mile that means you would be trapping like 105-110mph... ud need some miracle to do that on a stock block ZE...

and your car always trapped max about 93mph? thats about 150kmh and 4th will redline about 170kmh or just past

the stock mx-3 trans is better for 1/4 mile and circuit racing u want the tighter gears. the only way an mx6 trans will be beneficial is if u have a few hundred horse where the engine can take use of the longer gearing.

1st gear on a mx6 trans or mx3 trans will ALWAYS be pretty much useless on any ze

Im going to assume dragracing here.

Hard as I try I simply can't get my KLZE to produce torque.
Hence the 4.39 final drive.

basicly I use a G25M gearbox though fith has been removed
and I have a spacer and plate in place to stop blowing the
bearings out!

Use a sprung center clutch use your on a hiding to nowhere breaking stuff!

The difference is fairly minimal but when you are highway cruising you rev 400-500rpms less, which helps a bit for fuel economy.

As for speed - I don't think you would gain much with the K8 tranny. The MX3 is the lightest car you can commonly put a ZE into - having short gears won't help as much IMO. If the car weighed heaps more than I would say a tight K8 box with a 6th gear would work good.
