Wheel Size Opinion

Post by mrmike420 »

I am interested in these rims:

http://www.performanceplustire.com/prod ... prodAnchor" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Specs:
Size 17x7
Bolt Pattern 4x100
Offset 38

I know they have a size calculator on the website but they don't have "MX-3" listed for any wheel they sell on the site. Just by guess-mating, will I be able to fit these on my car with the right tire-size combination, or will i be running into problems? I have eibach lowering springs and ZX2 struts also.

17x7 is no problem, though personally I'd suggest 16x8. :) Lighter weight and bigger tires.

If your tires rub your struts, just throw on some 5mm wheel spacers. No biggie.

Thank you for your response. I'd be all for 16x8's but I can't seem to find a rim like it in that size. :?

Baller..

Yea they will fit, 38 is a good offset so they should sit nice. I would run a 215.40.17 tire with that rim

+1 to 16x7 or 16x8. 17's are too big for an MX3. 38mm is a good offset for wide tires/rims.

I also have 215.40.R17's.. I'd probably go 16's if I were to do it again. I like the look but they are just too damn heavy. My rims are not exactly heavy either...
-1 to chrome.. never worth the weight. - all show and it'll hurt your go.
I'd also like to remind ppl that if they increase the size of their wheels, upgrade your breaks. You still need to stop all that mass.

Thanks everyone for your feedback... Unfortunately I can't seem to find a 16 that I like, most are fugly  and the ones I do like (few) are about $400+/each. Decision! Decision!

keep in mind... it's cheaper to do it right the first time than to do it twice.

This looks like an attempt at bling, so I don't think weight really matters. 17 is fine. Will fit.

weight should always matter on a sport compact. it'll hurt your power, stopping ability and gas mileage

I forgot to mention, my car is mainly built for show quality. I don't do track, it's not a daily driver and I'm not a street ricer. The main emphasis for my topic was on fitment. It's possible i'll run into snags on power, stopping ability, weight issues, and/or gas mileage :) , but those are hurdles I'll worry about jumping if/once they come into play. Thanks again guys for the info but i decided to place my order in a few weeks.

Unless you don't care about any of that, and only care about the looks, in which case it doesn't matter.

I think 17s are perfect for an mx3, not too big, not too small. I've got 17x7 with 4x100 bolt pattern. Tires are 205/40/17. Works like a charm.

Is the 205/40/17 tire, better fitment than the 215.40.17 tire?

yeah i had 17's on my mx3 as well for awhile and i thought they looked pretty good. atleast its not 18 or 19, 17 is the maximum i think an mx3 should be.

also note the price of 17 inch tires in comparison to 16. check out mx3autozam 16" rims, they are probably the nicest on the site (if they are on the site, there on his facebook thats forsure)
