low profile tire question....

Post by se7en »

okay, so I bought some 1996 5 star OEM rims, and got them powdercoated...gun metal grey with a 'hammered' finish....and red pinstripe around the outside....

I have been searching for low profile tires for these, and I can seem to find anything lower than a 50 series tire....I am not concerned with the speedo being calibrated, I just want some good low profile tires.

if anyone has a link to some that would be great. 15" tire size BTW.

Se7en...I understand not wanting to calibrate the speedo per say since most of us can drive well enough without it...

But 15" wheels w/ low pros? Whats the benefit? More tire spin? Laying down LESS rubber? Not to mention your car will look silly! Tiny wheels in big wheel wells!

I understand the want to have a "low profile" look but I think that will be defeated with having tiny wheels!

well, it looks fine with 50 series now...and I am gonna lower it, which will make the fender wells seem smaller.

so I think I can get away with 40 series at least.

also it will effectively raise(numerically) my final drive ratio...which I want for my application.

OK! I think the only tires you will find for that will be ones made for econo cars. Most of them will probably be rather thin though. Are you looking for a performance tire?

You don't have traction problems even though you're boosted? A smaller tire will mean less traction but if you get traction, you will have slightly better acceleration.

I am looking for 225/15/40 or 235/15/40....any taller of tire, and it will rub under the fenderwell.

yes, I have traction troubles :)

only running 205 tire right now.

They have an excellent rating section and theyre decently priced for most tires, but not all. They'll call you when you purchase to try to make sure you buy 4 tires if you only selected 2 and you need to give them some BS that you already have 2 of the same type that you got in some other way (haha).

Call them up they have decent Customer Service.

I have excellent experience with tirerack. I have purchased several sets of tires from them, and they come fedex express. Just take the tires to your favorite shop and they'll mount them for around 10-15/tire or so... Anyways, tirerack's customer service is excellent as well.

I bought some rotors for me mx-3 and they sent me some huge truck rotors... I tried to tell them they were wrong, but I guess the guy thought I didn't know what I was talking about, because the part number was the right one listed in their systems (but was the wrong one for the car)
I snapped a picture, sent it to his email and they immediately sent out new ones with a return label.

This is SuperK, and I approve of this store.
