throttle body

Post by aufgehdraht »

so I'm driving down the road and i shift out of gear but the engine still stays at like two grand. i tap the gas and it revs up and then go down to the normal idle. it does this after driving around a bit never when its cold. it did it once and i pulled over and popped the hood. the throttle was closed to where it was supposed to be. i jiggled the pulley and it dropped back down. what could be going on here it is a used engine but its only got 33k miles on it

^ most likely. Carbon/sludge build up around the butterfly can cause sticking, but that generally sticks when the TB is closed and you try to open it up.

Is it the cable or the throttle body? Disconnect the cable and get a buddy to hold it while you pump the pedal. There is a spring at the pedal and in the throttle body to pull the throttle back to closed.

Did you take off the intake hosing? Its really simple, even taking off the TB is very simple.

When you take the cable off, can you twist the throttle (while car is off) does it return to its normal position?

If the throttle returns to normal without the cable on, its clearly the cable.

it could be a sticky Idle Air Control, gasses come back up through the intake and condense on the throttle plate, and the IAC making it had to close, take it off and clean it with sum carb cleaner, see if that does it

yea it turns out i had the cable too tight so even though it was shutting it still thought it was open so make sure there's some play in there when if you adjust one
