It depends so much on your budget and your goals.

I did Escort ZX2 shocks and Eibach springs all around for about $800 while using some good junk yard parts. If you did everythign new you could add about $150 to that. The ZX2/Eibach upgrade is a nice factory upgrade. Not for racing or even really sporty city driving. Just a little better than stock. Lowers about .5 - 1".

Other spring/shock combos will be more aggressive and stiffer, but you quickly get to the point where you'll need camber correction to achieve a perfect alignment. Prices are roughly in line with my setup. Corksport shows several of the common choices.

From there, you get into coilovers. There are a lot of options. Some are crap and others are probably really good. I don't have any experience, but I've read it all on here...you can find that stuff easily.

Of course I'm going to plug my Poly Bushing Group Buy which is progected to go into production in February. $400 ish (less depending on the number of buyers) will transform your car. Polyurethane is, in my opinion, the most beneficial upgrade you can make to any car's suspension.

I believe my setup to be the best without going to coilovers (ALOT of planning has gone into it). Check out my worklog. A big part of what sets my suspension ahead of most is the Polyeurethane bushings, which weren't available until now. I highly recommend them, and Wytbishop's endlinks.

I have Zx2's with Ground controls - 300F 200R, brand new strut mounts - waiting for poly bushings and need to install the end links still. My car drives great on smoothish roads but I hit 1 big pothole and its CLUNK. I think I need to upgrade my bumpstops as they are too stiff, so I think I will look into a softer one - there are some great articles on miata sites about this.

My car is not slammed, I am about 1/2way up on my coilovers, but I think I am going to raise them slightly. I want my car to ride a little smoother/have more travel that it does now without bottoming out (don't know for sure if thats what's happening I didn't get the helper springs or put any rubber on the surfaces so its metal to metal! (Will be looking for something to fix this over Christmas hopefully). I went with a stiffer rate because I wanted to compensate for the lack of travel that GC's have. Have never taken the car to a track so I cannot compare. My steering is very tight though (new MOOG inner tie rods and ball joints) and the car is extremely responsive with this setup. Everyone that drives my car says that it drives very crisp...can't wait to see what new bushings will do!
