"Fitting" 6x9's in the back.

Post by WaaX »

I've recently put 6x9's in the back speaker compartments. It required some modding of the panels with a dremel, really easy though. The fitting isn't perfect, the "speaker grills" stick up a little bit, nothing too aesthetically unpleasing though.

ALL PICTURES ARE UN-CROPPED, 56k warning.

First I cut up the "speaker grill":

Then I modified the "flaps" because the speakers stick out some, that's why I had to cut the "speaker grill".

It's not a 100% fit, but it works, the speakers are functional. I put some crossovers on them to take out any bass, they sound pretty good.

A Set of 6.5 inch speakers would have fit in there no problem and give you better sound quality than the 6x9's

I'm aware of the differences between round and oval speakers, the 6x9's were the only extra speakers I had, and figured they would be better than stock for the time being. If and when I get a seperate amp for my interior speakers is when I'll care enough about the acoustical differences between round and oval speakers. :D

good try but i would never do that
1.why do you have speaker grills on top of speakers when your putting them inside, it makes them look not good and and im sure pain in the rear end to fit
2.who is saying that oval 5.25 or whatever size it is in mx3 is gona be better performance then 6x9?....i wouldnt agree to that
3.would it not be a mllion times easier andbetter looking and probably sounding to get a hatch cover, even a broken one, makie the holes for the 6x9 in it and istall it that way, i cant see how high your sub box goes and even if hatch cover will fit at all.....but honestly, ripping half of the car apart to put 6x9s in.......i donno man, hope it works great for you though, good try

I can go back to the stock round speakers at any time, and if I do then everything will be flush again. I don't really mind it considering you wouldn't even see the cut marks if it's sitting flush. I really don't expect anyone else to do this but I posted it because someone might.
