Over-filled oil causing this?

Post by richyrich »

So my gf mentioned that she has noticed a few puffs of whitish grey smoke in the morning after the car has sat all night, but then runs clean and fine afterward. Car never did this before so i checked the oil and found that she had overfilled it id say by about a litre. I drained it to appropriate level but havent had a chance yet to see if this solved the morning smoke problem.

Do you think that the extra litre was the problem and that it should be fine now? And also what are the chances that any damage was caused to the engine from driving it moderately like this for about a week?

Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

If it was burning oil - the smoke would have blue tint to it. The whitish grey smoke you describe could be either due to coolant leaking into the combustion chamber (bad headgasket - the white smoke will be there all the time not just at start) or just condensation in the system burning off during first start.
