I have a Mazda MX-3 Sitting for the last 14 months

Post by jermschubs »

Hey,

I have a mazda mx-3 gs that has been sitting in my driveway for 14 months now. I can see the brake rotors are rusted. I was just wondering if I could still use them after all this time or if i should replace the brake pads and rotors. i have 4 discs btw. when i got this car the only problem was a bad rear bearing and are there any other things i should look for before getting this car road ready?

Thanks.

If the brakes still have lots of linings remaining, and the rotors were fine before, I'd probably try going for a jaunt and using the brakes a lot. That should clean them up.

Brake rotors rust, they're an exposed piece of metal. Once you start using the brakes, the rust will come off the parts of them that matter.

This is not an all inclusive list. Just what I can think of, in no particular order:

1) Syphon any remaining fuel out of the tank and dispose of it.

2) Perhaps do an oil change.

3) Check lug nut torque and tire pressure.

4) Check and top up all fluids under the hood.

5) Have someone help you to check all your exterior bulbs (headlights, brakelights, turn signals, etc.)

6) Make sure your weiner of a horn still works.

7) Check your wiper blades for effectiveness.

8 ) Get insurance.

9) Get gas...

10) Take off that stupid aluminum shopping cart handle spoiler if you have one.

11) If you have a fart-can straight through muffler that makes your car sound like a mosquito, remove it immediately and replace with a 3-chamber, or something of the like.

12) Tune your sound system properly so I don't hear your cheap subwoofers bottoming out to your crappy music.

13) Unrecline your seat so that you can actually see the road, and I can see you. Believe it or not, you probably don't live in Compton, and there's not that much danger of a stray bullet hitting you.

14) Shi#, shower, and shave.

15) Start car, and drive.

Nice list Umcamara! Points 10-15 are the best and all new drivers should adhere to that advice!
