need a tranny to hold 450wHP

okay folks, I want to be the first in the 9's running the kl series engine.

the power end of it is easy (relatively speaking) I will run a de with ze? heads and de valetrain, and 20-21psi boost.

running a turbonetics 60-1 t4 .63 a/r making 450-470whp

okay, here's my problem.

the tranny.

I know that I will need tough axles, but the most problem is the launch.

do I have to buy the quaife lsd? is there a more cost effecient lsd that will hold that power?

I read somewhere about welding the diff or something?

also, it doesn't have to last forever, but at least 10 runs for tuning , then I can turn the boost back to a more realistic number :)

is there straight cut gears available for the g-series trans?

I am aiming for a 1.55-1.7 60 foot time to get the number with 26X15X10.5" drag radials.

I may launch and make the pass with less boost, and use some spray at the top for the runs, I haven't decided yet.

so, any ideas tranny gods?

lets make history :)

as far as I can tell, 10.80's is as fast as an mx-3 has run in street trim FWD(done by rafi)

and that was a bp.

edit: would it help maybe to lower the front and raise the backend? to keep the weight in the front...

That was not a BP, but a FE3.

If I can stick off the line, then 450Wheel HP will get me into the 9's.

just for example(I know these things are usually generous):

http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/et_calculator.html

using that link as an example, using 2200lbs car with 450WHP runs 9.88 best case senerio.

I think that if I can stick it I will get close.

ps. I am not just some noob...I have been racing 10-11 sec cars for 8 years now. :)

so lets see what happens.

back to my original question.....can I get straight cut gears for this tranny? other recommend tranny upgrades?
(g-series specific)

thanks

I know this may sound random, but have a read through the loooooong TPS thread, KiwiMx3 was building a drag MX3 and posted some info in there...., actually, have a check thru some of his posts, there's tidbits of info everywhere lol! most of his stuff was homemade or custom-made

custom straight cut gears are made by a company called RPM engineering in auckland
New zealand for the mazda gearbox P.O.A.

first and third gear are the weakest link, a GTX third seems to be the strongest factory gear
so far.

I have bellhousing plates that remove the motormount stress from the gearbox assy which stops
a lot of cracking of the gearbox. my mazspeed lsd redrilled for extra arp bolts seems to be fine
so far.

I currently pull a 1.8 60' with a custom front end and shocks, if i was to run a wheelie bar i could
cut that to a 1.6, jacking the rear does nothing and 1000 lbs springs is scary on a short wheelbase
car in the topend.

Matt.

1.8 60' that's not bad....1.6 is what I will need to run my time...

Interesting - Kiwi_mx3 and Kiwimx3 :?:

whats the deal with the user name? Kiwi_mx3 had plenty to contribute (granted - not for a long while) and all of it bloody useful.

So who is Kiwimx3?

currently a best of 12's @ 115mph and thats if i have traction.

My bellhousing is machined 6mm and i have a plate
( ever seen how the v8 motors are mounted in tube chassis )
setup that picks up the front mount and the diff housing
also i have a modified 626 mount mounted to the rear of the
plate and it picks up the rear chassis member that the steering rack
is mounted on.
