Swap question

Post by N2daizo123 »

I know its probably been asked before but, I have 1994 mx3 rs 1.6 dohc. My goal for the car is 250-300 hp to the crank. Would it be better to boost the 1.6 or swap in a bp and then turbo it. I have read the swap guides for the 1.6 sohc to the bp but i haven't found anything on the 1.6 dohc to bp swap. Would the 1.6 dohc to bp be a hard swap?

One of the main problems with the dohc as opposed to the sohc is the need to do a lot of splicing with the engine harness. I would just swap the harness. Search for dohc swap, there's information on here.

Do the BP swap, but take it step by step. First worry about swapping the engine in before you try for crazy horse power.

You will need the BP wire harness and get rid of the entire DOHC OBD II harness( because the BP is OBD I). Get both the BP wire diagrams (90-94 protege LX) and the MX wire diagram and see what wires need connected for each to work, ie the ignition wire on the MX has a separate connection when the BP has it on one of the main connectors.

The BP will handle hi boost ranges way better then the 1.6. There is more aftermarket for the BP ( because its so close to the miata engine). With stock BP you can get 250hp with a good turbo, injectors and engine management.

Re: Swap question

I've got the B6 1.6dohc too. I'm planning on do a swap toward the end of the year. I think I pretty much understand everything else about the swap but I'm still confused about the axles and halfshaft. If I keep my mx tranny (I think it's an f-series) can I use my halfshaft and axles with a BP without mod or will I have to change the tranny and axles and halfshaft?
It ain't done 'til it's done right.
