se7en - 1992 mx-3 GST - pics inside now -
heh, I like how that sounds, GST, for turbo GS.
well, this is my worklog.
first off, I bought my car for $100 with a sic automatic.
It had 1st gear fine, and 4th. that's it.
I drove it anyways for a few months.
first, the disty went.
so I did the HEI mod.(works awesome)
then I did the external coil mod too.(works awesome also)
after a bit of driving, I got sick of the automatic junk tranny.
I then drove three hours to pull a manual tranny from a probe GT.
I also got all the crossmembers and mounts and linkage from the probe.
(turns out, it doesn't fit the mx-3) grr.
oh well, I made everything work with some mods.
took me about 11-12 hours to do the swap, and took about a weekend.
I really recommend this swap to any auto mx-3's.
about the same time I followed the faq about the CAI home depot thing.
worked okay. seems to be faster too. :)
I also had to get the tranny upper mount to finish off the tranny swap, so 3 hours drive again :(
okay, now I am done with the swap!!!!(I should have pulled the motor out with the tranny, cuz the car only had 100 KMS on it)
(the car was t-boned real bad.)
I am running the probe gt flywheel, and it feels like it helps with torque output because it is a bit heavier.(someone please clarify this?)
*****Turbo time!********
So I was on eBay. I found the turbo pipes for 150$ plus shipping, so I went for it. little did I know that I still had lots to buy!
with some research and help from fellow mx-3ers I bought a AEM UEGO wideband kit, greddy boost gauge, .63 a/r t3/t04 hybrid turbo, vortech 12:1 FMU, and millenia s injectors(still waiting on these though), turbo oil line kit, and soon to get the MSnS also.
I think that I am leaving something out, but I can't remember right now.
Ebay stuff takes forever to get to canada!!! grr.
I am still waiting on the Hot pipes from ebay so I can finish off this project, and I am so excited!
Darn it! I can not explain how annoyed I am at waiting 3 weeks for something to clear customs.
next up, I will get some 17's, and drop this thing a couple inches.
mods to come?
I don't know... maybe carbon fiber hood? body kit? weight loss?
we'll see. but one thing for sure, I really like this car and I will keep it for a long time.
thanks for listening to my ramblings, and I will try to get some pics soon.

Ok, here is some pics finally. no making fun of my dirty engine bay, and ugly wires everywhere ;)it was a long couple of nights working on the car, and I had to get it running to get to work on monday
Here is a pic of my car in the snow. fun stuff.

I installed this setup in two afternoons and evenings to get this up and running. not too bad I guess

oh yeah, for the record, the internal wastegate won't work with our cars. it brings the downpipe too close the disty(not like it isn't close already).
so I had to get an external one today. grr those are expensive.
the car is runing great now @ 7.2psi (0,5bar) really pulls hard when I can get traction
I love this car.....
what to do now though? I am out of project ideas.
body kit and lighten up car I guess.
I will post more proper engine pics when I get it all cleaned up and painted and wire-loomed and all that jazz..
chiao for now.

It's looking good.
I'd say it's time for the ZX-2 Tokicos, lowering springs, and some 15 or 16 inch aftermarket wheels.
I just installed the Tokicos and H & R springs, highly recommended.
Nice work.

thanks man! I am really enjoying this car. It is the first import that I have done this much work too, usually I am a chevy muscle car guy.
I love the way these cars handle, and you say they get even better with the zx2's and h&r's ?
That would be sweet.
I will have to try that I guess!!!

I was hoping you'd put up a worklog. Good job.
I come from buidling Chevy's, also, and love the handling of MX-3s! I have a stock GS, and a ZE with H&R springs, new Energy Suspension bushings all around, and strut tower braces. It makes a big difference! I highly recommend all of it!
Keep up the good work

Well here is some updated pics of my car.
engine bay, not finished cleaning it up yet.

closer look at the turbo setup. Some stuff moved around a bit.

and a couple of outside pics. Don't mind all the winter dirt. I will give it a cleaning when it warms up above -30C

oh, and I thought I would put a pic of my wife and I

don't we just look all happy..

Okay, I installed my projectors today. It turned out not too bad I think.
Tell my what you think

I still need to clean up the car after my grubby hands were all over it though.
cheers

Very cool. I always wanted to do this to my MX. Was it as much moding as you thought it would be? I have heard some complain how much it takes and then the next person how easy it was. Looking good!
