5 Speed for Auto

Post by jschrauwen »

Some of you may remember that I bought a real nice Black 95 5sp GS a year ago for my daughter. Well, now that she's up and driving by herself now (with my Protege I might add) she is firmly convinced that she does not want to drive a 5sp. Soooooooo, it looks like I may have to try and find a suitable GS Auto for her instead. If anyone hears of someone with a GS Auto that would be a suitable trade (read equivalent quality) than I'd be very interested in knowing. The Black 95 GS is bone stock and has only been started a few times a month since I bought it a year ago. I know it's going to be difficult to find the same quality MX that hasn't been beaten on by an energetic youth or modded rediculously or both.
Anyway, if you hear or see anything that closely resembles this, let me know.
Cheers,
John

hmmz...auto swap a bit of work I would assume??? I know swap from auto to 5spd is fairly simple. but swap from 5spd to auto i don't know about but alot of people don't do stuff like that. But ya i agree you will have a hard time finding an mx as clean as the one you had. Why not just teach your daughter how to drive the 5spd.

So I take it your back from overseas now. Its been awhile since you've been around the scene. Nothing really new hear except me blowing up my newer minty fresh klze

You know John, a swap, I dont think it'll be possible, not without a lot of work. Ask Duncan about what they changed/removed, and you'll just have to reverse that for the mechanical portion, but I think the other, the main problem is the electrical. I'm sure the engine harness will be completely different, the auto trans portion will be missing completely. It's easy to trick and bypass an automatic ECU when you don't need it, but how do you impliment it when it's required but the car isn't designed to accept it?

You may get lucky if the auto ECU doesn't need to interface with the engine ECU (or maybe with only a few taps into the engine harness), you can probably run your own harness to it, but I can only guess for now...

OMG guys. I don't know how you got the word "SWAP" out of my post. I want to trade the Black 95 GS 5sp for an Auto MX GS.
Sheesh

ya i know but your going to have a hard time finding a car in as nice shape as the one you got already. honestly John either make her learn stick or maybe give her something else. Why does she have to have an mx3?? lol

ya mike I know whats involved in the swaps. But i think its a little more complicated for the auto swap.

Thanks for the advice guys. However, teaching her on a stick is not an option at this point. My daughter does not live with me (North Bay) so an ongoing instruction in driving a stick is not an option. I too would prefer her to have the 5 speed since it's a nice unmolested GS. Perhaps a trade for a nice Protege might be even better if no one steps up.

*Edit*
BTW, I'm not back yet. Posting this from my tent on my CarPC that I brought with me to Kandahar. I'll be back for 2 weeks on the 25th. I have to pick up my Z from having the engine built and then drop it off at the paint shop.

Sheesh
I think most people know that a trade is no longer an option. I'm going to be giving my daughter my Protege. She got very attached to it during the 7 months I was in Afghanistan. So, as some may know, I've continued the previous owners thread (in the for sale section) on the same car so as to give everyone a better history about it.
John (mx3autozam) has shown an interest although anyone else interested send me a pm or email. I'd like to see it go to a good home.
cheers,
-John-

FWIW, I'll be posting my White MX3 up for sale this spring/summer. I've found that I'm just not using it like I thought I would. So rather than letting it go unused for another 1.5 years, I might as well see if I can find it a good home.
More than likely will go on Auto trader or something like that with an added listing here.
No test pilots or low ballers please.
cheers,
John

Ya, but I just found out I'm coming home last week, no matter, that's how my luck works. No rush, I'll be working locally, but I was looking for something to leave at the airport when I work out of town (more likly be flying out of Hamilton or Toronto) and as a potential winter beater. Was just an idea, I haven't even started working with the new job yet, I want to get my truck this year, but this was just a more immediate solution but a problem that I dont know when will exist, but I do know i"ll be working in Niagara to start, which is quite convinient.
