B6 Turbo Manifold

Post by lazzer408 »

Where do I find a turbo manifold for a B6 in a front wheel drive application? Would anyone know if the Capri and 323 manifolds with the VJ-11 turbo will fit the MX3?

10secSim - Thanks.
Did the Ford festiva ever come turbo? I haven't see many of the cars you mentioned in the states. Hence my problem locating a manifold.

Back again. I went out and bought a GTX 1.6L manifold (B6T I assume) and I bought a VJ-11 turbo (probe?). Guess what... First of all the MX-3 1.6L isn't a B6 engine in the first place. I've worked on many Miatas and this engine is different then the B6 Miata. Where this block bolts to the trans there's an area resembling a bellhousing. The Wastegate actuator hit this and I can't bolt the turbo to the manifold!! Now what do I do? I can't take off the wastegate. Cut the block? I might be able to put a spacer between the head and the mani to bring it out about 1" (or more) but that's weak. This pisses me off. I traded my Civic for this MX-3 because I was tired of trying to figure out what D series this would fit what B series that only when X trans mounts are used from Y year Z model Honda. Now Mazda pulled the same crap and made another variation of the B6?? Does the Miata BP fit this car? If so how does the distributer bolt up? I can get those easy enough.

Help! Help!

Dude seriously, you cannot blame mazda and everyone else for your lack of research before buying parts. The mx3 has 2 versions of B6 - one is a SOHC B6(B6ME) in 92-93 models and the other is a DOHC (B6DE) in 94+ models. The B6DE is pretty much the same as the miata engine (B6ZE) - the miata model is RWD configuration ofcourse and wont just bolt in without modifications - same goes for miata BP. But a protege BP (90-94) or Escort BP (91-96) is FWD and is a bolt on if you have the SOHC model mx3 - otherwise you will have to deal with some wiring hassles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_B_engine

I am not sure what this guy is doing wrong either, the B6 323 GTX manifold will bolt directly onto a MX3 1.6 DOHC, the VJ-11 turbo will also bolt onto this manifold, there are some minor adjustments that have to be made to the wastegate.

I know this because I am running this exact setup on my turbo MX3.

I did the wastegate modification and got it on. My argument was the B6 in a Miata or 323 is different then the MX3 B6. Reguardless... It's running 5 1/2 psi at the moment with Probe 280cc? injectors and a 5deg base time with no IC.

Here's Pics.

That's my Miata forum (or any Mazda) if anyone is interested. I have a few distributers on there too.

U should have gotten a 92-93 mx-3 done a BP swap boost it. Meaning doing a decent turbo setup using the good stuff and them u would be much happier with the end result like i have been.

in my case my only set back is i want more power and 18psi doesn't cut it for me anymore..and thats on a n/a bp-de. not the POS BPT

I would but I'm saving the $$ for the Miata. The engine alone for the swap would have cost more then I have into this setup but I agree. 250-300hp easy on a BP but I already have one of those to build. =)

Since this topic already exists i'll ask here.

Can the B6-T manifolds bolt onto the B6-ME with some minor modification?

That was used in the mx3 in 91 92 right? Easiest way to find out if it'll bolt up is to have an auto store pull the manifold gaskets for the motor you want to put it on and the motor the manifold came from then compair. When I used a B6T manifold on my B6D, the wastegate actuator of the vj-11 hit the block. That was all I had to modify. The B6T and B6D have different blocks. The vj-11 came off a Probe though. I eventually ditched the vj-11 and used a vj-14 off a Capri (B6T). The vj-14 spool is much faster and for the boost level I run it's fine. It also bolted right up to the mani with no mods.

Anyways... In your case, just have a shop pull the exhause gaskets and check.

It looks like it'as a no go.

All this smack talk on the 1.6L...funny....my 1.6L propells me to 135+mph 1/4 mile trap speeds on a granny launch  Averages about 22-24mpg even when playing on the street....long highway trips with play at a minimum yields 34+mpg.

Lime...you need to quit dilly dalling with that meek boost and bring it up to my level 24-26psi on 93 oct. for the street  The only street bikes that can even hang with me are Hyabussa

JW I don't put that kinda $$ into fwd cars. ;)

The 1.6 B6 is a pos compaired to the 1.8 BPT or even a BP period. When my 5 is done it's old BP(t) will go into the 3.

Anyone have a boost timing controller forsale cheap?

Thats funny....the B6 & BP are virtually the same engine with the exception of the displacement and block/head/cam/crank length. Don't see how it is a piece of crap compared to the BP? Same damn engine...lol...Bp is just bigger bore and stretch block. My point is that you all WAY under estimate the capability of the B6 and write it of as a pos....dollar for dollar I can make a B6 EAT a BP in the MX-3. Bigger isn't allways better either...look at most of your top fuel cars now a pays....hell look at the pro stock drag cars and every most have transitioned to small bore long stroke  . The B6 is also lighter.
