Salvage Yard Motors... yeah I know...

Post by steckino »

Okay... as I was going about in the salvage yard and saw a 94 Protege. That got me thinking. I honestly do not trust that motor... but how easy would it be to rebuild it? Would it be worth it? or no? or is it just plain out of the question and not worth it. Something may be cracked and all... yeah, I just want to see about getting a better motor. I have people who can help me put it in and all... just would it be easier to order a new motor and get it shipped here, or to buy a salvage yard motor and rebuild it... go ahead and tell me if it's just a stupid idea though, I am open to your opinion. I'll probably go back tomorrow and take a picture of the motor.

Sweet, and thank you... I was wondering if anyone was going to reply.

So yeah How much did you pay for it? what's the most I should pay for it ? 500 I would say is the most I should pay for it from a salvage yard, seeming a brand new one is just over 1300.

hey hey no need to be sarcastic

atlantamx3 is a valued member in the mx-3 world..

but if ya like i can do the same....

if ur getting a use junkyard motor or trans and ur pulling it out of a car make sure its been wreck from the back the side a lil mess up in the front any of these. reason why think about if it looks in nice ot mint condion chances are it had motor or transmission failure...

and if ya find one get warranty please as soon as ya get it slap it on to find out if it works.. if not return it and find another.. one

well here in tx the bp motors and trans are dirt cheap.. under $300 for a pull it urself BP with warrenty and $160 for a transmission with warrenty given ya pull it urself.. i talk to some guys up north an the prices up there are outrages,...

SO DON'T EXPECT TO PAY WHAT IM PAYING DOWN HERE... FOR A MOTOR OR TRANS..

i woudlent pay more that 375 for a pulled motor, you can get JDM ones for around 450 online. dont let them rip you off. if i saw a 94 chilling in a junkyard i would offer to pay 200 for the thing and see what you can con the guy into. remember that guys there not to help you, but to scam as much cash out of your pocket as possible

I would pass on that if I were you.

Wrong motor.

You want a 90-94 Protege LX or 91-95 Escort GT.
