Transmission Trouble
I have a 95 MX-3 1.6L automatic. For some reason it wont shift out of second gear. I was told it was the transmission control unit. Is this correct or could it possibly be something else? HELP PLEASE!
You mean it will go neutral, 1st, 2nd and reverse but not anything else

do you mean its stuck in second gear?
Either case - it is *very* rare that TCU would go bad (it can happen - but rare) - most probably a fried tranny. But if you can find a TCU from a junkyard or something try swapping it. 94-95 models should work.
If not try getting a fluid/filter change.
You can also trouble shoot the TCU by jumping pins GND & TAT in the diagnostic box and counting the number of flashes of the hold light. Once you get the code you can look it up in the online manual in this site.
