My sohc is overheating at a standstill or in traffic, if i'm moving it's fine. I can hotwire the passenger-side fan to come on and the engine cools down.ariesdude
There are 3 coolant thermo sensors in SOHC model - one for the gauge, one for the ecu and the switch for the fan.
Take out the water thermo switch connector - jump the terminals manually and turn ignition on.
If your fan turns on then relay, fan & wiring are all ok - you just have to replace the sensor.
If it doesnt turn on then check the relay and the fan motor.
What terminals is ariesdude indicating to jump, the ones at the thermo-switch? I want to rule out the relay, wiring and quite possibly any fuses in between. Upon searching under the hood i found one wire that was completely severed and some other wires that had some abrasions on their plastic coating. The harness for these wires had lingered it's way down to rest gently on the powersteering pulley. The pulley didn't mind this at all. I spliced the severed wire and repositioned the harness, but it still gets hot.
Thanks in advance,
Leon
