That used to happen to me when my car was sohc. I never found out what the problem was with it. I think it might be a common thing. I just put a bpt in the car and that fixed it right up. I recommend the same for you.

did you try adjusting the idle screw on the throttle body?
maybe look for vacuum leaks? our intake piping had some cracks in it that cause a fluctuation in the idle... just replaced it and it came up to a smooth steady idle of 1500.... haha, now I'm going to adjust the idle and bring it down, but I have to find me a screwdriver first :?

I helped him sort this out over MSN, he has a 16, EGR.

Resetting his ECU seemed to fix it, atleast temporarily.

I was having the same problem 'til I read this topic. Reseting the ecu worked for me but why? Why does it run normal after you do that? I don't want to sound dumb, just curious.
Mazda.... What happens in the parking lot, stays in the parking lot

My solution as well lmao. Been 7 months since I started cause of the tight money situation. And plus a BPD GTR ain't the easiest thing to get all the parts, time, and money into :p

I've solved this simply by adjusting the idle screw where the air comes in.
