RPMs Drop to Zero While Driving

92 MX3 driving along fine then RPM's drop to ZERO as I pull over sometimes they jump back up and car resumes as if nothing happened- othertimes car stops and is hard to start. Mechanic tested for vacuum leaks and can get no resistance on JE-50 VAF. Is it the VAF or should I be looking at HEI module as culprit?

This sounds like an intermittent issue, a bad VAF would seem to me to be more consistant one. Do you have any more information available? Codes?

if you are sayin the rpms cut out and engine dies. than yes you need a distrubtor or the hei mod.
if the engine dies and the tach drops slowly as engine stops spinning than it is fuel / engine managment related.
