Seized and broken plugs...here we go

Post by MX-SLICK »

well My car started running like s--- today...really really bad actually...felt like i was driving a 1 cylinder dirt bike with a fouled spark plug...emarassing to say the least. Obviously a misfire.......So i just got some new plugs and lone behold, It looks like there are a few plugs that are broken!! (not the insulator, but the hex nut on a few of the plugs is missing) I tried to undo the ones that werent broken, but they were really tight and it sounded like they were starting to crack. Im thinkin im gonna have to pop off the valve cover :x ...If I take off the valve cover can i get on the spark plugs with vice grips or something from there? Or are they still sunken down a bit?

Thanks in advance

Those Plugs are in there deep man. Even if you do take the valve cover off there is a metal tube that protects them.

uhhhh figures....why people dont put never-seize on plugs is beyond me....Can you beleive im actually thinking of selling this car because of spark plugs?...Funny....I have never heard of the Hex part of the spark plug breaking off, only the ceramic part....Someone must have wrenched on that plug pretty damn hard at one time to bust that off....

there is a special socket you can buy that has multipul pin's
in the end so it comforms to the shape of the nut you are trying to
undo, i can't find one on the net to give you a site to look at but
we have them at work and are a neat tool.

you might have to break off the ceramic part to use this socket.....

i always had a fear of this happening, especially after what happen when babybluemx3 had to pull the head off his gf's car to get the busted piece of spk plug out of the head

my plugs are good and anti-siezed up after that story
