J-Spec BP's

Post by WingleBeast »

i look on ebay for used BP engines and all the JDM ones i find for sale say they are the 91-93 protege engines, however they all have the physical aspects of the 95+ OBDII BP. things like the one peice sliver valvecover/timing cover. are these the same as the 95+ ones in the USA, or are they just liek the 91-94 ones with just different head?

im really looking for the newer OBDII one to swap into my 94rs, i heard it wa san easier swap then the older one for my car

i'd send a message to the seller and ask cause i'd bet those are really the 94+ bps that are the obdI and II hybrid or straight obdII which are what you probably want

If a seller does not really know thier s--- or is not willing to open the page and tell you odds are you do not want to buy from them.

they are from j-spec 91-93 proteges. they are just the importer, they get all the engines from japan.

i really want to plop on in my 94rs, but i was told the OBDII system on 95+ proteges is easier

why are you only looking at the jdm ones? for the 2nd gen protege bp's there isnt any real difference between jdm and usdm models... just get one from a pro or a kia

Either is easier said than done, there is shipping and the every present issue of how complete the long block is. Its very posisble that 400 does not include manifolds, brakets, sensor, and a slew of other things you need to make the motor function.

With my old Mx-3 it was easy to regress it to an OBDOI system, you need a compelte engine harness though. We purchased a whole front end clip from a protege lx for 750$ USD

im not concerned about everything. a 400 engine shipped to my dads business will be less than $700. ive done my homework

and i would prefer OBDII because of the better sensor readings

The OBDII version of a BP that you will find is of a diffrent tune though. If I recall right its missing a few of the things that help give the BP in the 91-94 its broad power curve, such as VICS and a Hemlotz device. If your that worried about the sensor readings you can buy an OBD-I motor and make it run with the OBDII eletrical system.

Personally the newer the OBD the more resrtictive it is on what you can do to the motor before it throws a CEL and puts it into limp mode.

The OBDII BP does have VICS. It also has an extra crank angle sensor, boost sensor and an O2 sensor after cat (but this o2 sensor is not crucial).

go to car-part.com and get yourself a usdm engine. It's a junk yard search site.
