Installing new gauge trio, help?

Post by tehbrookzorz »

I purchased a set of gauges (voltmeter, water temperature and oil pressure) the other day as they were on sale.

http://www.iequus.com/product_info.php? ... id=100_105

Anyway, I hope I didn't do this in vain, how hard would it be to hook these up?

I ask because I figure at least a few of you have done this with different model gauges and you know where to plumb from.

Obviously voltage will be easy to find, but where can I get the oil pressure from, and can I get the temp guage to work without disabling the one in the stock gauge cluster?

I'm planning on putting these under my Alpine CDA-9835 head unit.. Think it'll look okay, not TOO ricey. :P

Any thoughts would be great!

I've posted on this topic before. If you are looking from the front of your car the places you need to tap into for your senders are on the passenger side of the car. Your water temp sender would be located on your filler neck right near the filler cap. you will see two plugs connected to the neck. I'm not sure which one you need to remove because I did the ze swap and forgot to swap my filller neck so I have only one bung to tap into. I just wired everything to one plug and it seems to work fine. The stock oil pressure sender is located at the front of the motor near your front header. From what I can remember it's to the left of the header. You will see the plug. If it weren't so late, I'd run out to the car and check the exact locations but you should be able to find these with no problem. I'm running a 3gauge pillar pod and if you take your cluster out of the dash, you will find screw on the ciruit board with (-) and (+) labels. You can use those to power your gauges if you want. If you choose not to go with the gauges under your radio, you can go to http://www.gaugepods.com and you'll find the 3 gauge pod. Goodluck and let us know how it works out.

No problem. good luck with the install. you should have no problem with the gauges and the ze. just remember when/if you do the ze swap. take the coolant filler neck from your k8 and swap it over to the ze.

Also, don't forget that the MX-3 uses metric sized threads so you'll need at least one adapter at the oil pressure sending unit. I suggest using some plumbers tape on the oil fittings to help stop leaks. I think the MX-3 uses a 10.0 thread pitch, but don't quote me. It is easy enough to take the stock pressure sending unit out and go to Home Depot to size it. I had to sepcial order the adapter from Auto Meter and it cost about 10 bucks.
Make sure that if your oil guage is mechanical that you watch VERY carefully for leaks as you don't want to catch something on fire or run the motor low on oil.
