EGR

Post by 1REVVIN3 »

I disconected my egr because it was not working, is there anyway to get rif of the code, beside buying a new egr. Also will the factory oil prssure sensor put the car in limp mode if not connected right.

EGR codes could be removed - but it requires some external components and a bit of wiring.

Oil pressure sensor is not connected to the ECU i think - it goes directly to the oil pressure light.

I have been thinking of a circuit like this for my ride
Image

I havent tried it yet - so proceed at your own risk.

Edited - to account for ground switching

Edit - tried the new circuit - no codes for 1 1/2 weeks and counting..

Couple of things come to mind when looking at that schematic.
EGR Solenoids are ground side controlled, just like about almost every car since 1980. So that won't work. Also the programming in the ECM for EGR position should be far more sensative than logic looking for fully closed and fully opened. Run with it ariesdude and let us know how it works. i would try something that would gradually increase the egr position sensor and wouldn't split the voltage between the solenoid and the relay, considering charging voltage is at the solenoid and the ecm does the grounding. Also a lot of cars also look at fuel trim to confirm egr flow. Cars using OBD I controls are going to be a lot more forgiving. ( IN the US that means before '96)

This schematic is for a 94 1.6l mx-3

There is a EPROM maker in California that can make up a K8 EPROM with the EGR code removed. It'll cost you $75 wth the chip installed, if it's worth that much to you.
