A/C problem

Ive been having probs with my A/c for a while now and finnally decided to investigate on where my freon could be leaking from. I filled the system and autimayically could here some leaking from under the car so I figured it was a leak in or near the compressor. So i got under the car and found it. It's leaking out of whats called the pressure relief valve on the compressor. any one know what i can do to fix?

really need help if ya guys got any advice! i work out of my car right now and it's no fun in the middle of the summer in florida with no A/C!!!

I know the feeling, hit 101 here yesterday, today should hit 104 heat index of MUCh higher

thank goodness my wife was off work today, and I got to take her 6. Man its HOT these days.

well, leaks on the pipe itself u can use that plumbers putty. hardens like steel. If the leaks round the P R valave, thats a servicing issue. u could
take it to a shop. mb u can get it looked at. a prob like that usually u would go get a rebuilt/ new ac compressor. or, hit some salvage yards. tons of mx-3 parts they'll sell ya.

Usually the A/C compessor PR Valve will pop if the system is overcharched. I believe the valve is non serviceable.

yea the PRV opens when theres too much pressure/ freon charge. I went the the "u pull it" junkyard and got one off of a MX-6 compressor , replaced mine and then went to charge it and got bout a half can in and it started blowing out the PRV again. I know that it should take more than a half can to fill the system!!

Sounds like a stressed compressor to begin with. An empty system should take more than half can for sure. G/L

Found out that some compressors have a PR Valve that can be replaced. My 92 does not but my 93 does. It's located in back of the compressor.

How does our AC compressor hold up with the R134a?

I had my 93 GS's AC converted to R134a freon about 5-6 wks ago. Man, the weather on these few days are hot around 100F, but, these few days, in the day times, the AC seems to work hard to make the cabin cold. The compressor rarely shuts off and on. In the night times, it's ice cold, my compressor kicked on and off few times in one minute...

I just wonder it's because the R134a is not as good as R12? The AC seems working fine, just that I have to drive, keep the car moving and more than 10mins then you will feel cold...

P|S: I did the conversion properly. I took it to my fren's work place and had him vacummed all the old freon out and then put in the new freon.

I converted to R134a many years ago and never had a problem.

Hot days like this will make all AC's work hard. It will take a little longer to cool the cabin also, especially if the cabin is hot to begin with.

R134a is not as efficient as R12, but it does the job.

Good job on the conversion, that is the proper way to do it.

Well, I think I'm kind of miss the R12 how it cooled down my cabin...quicker.

Is there any simple way to test our AC system's working efficiently?
