Replaced the front valve cover seal today

Post by Macen »

It was easy. Luckely I didn't need to replace the rear one yet.

What do you guys think about the health of the engine? It's from 1995 and has been running for 170000km (106000miles).

Im not sure how much you can tell of an engine just by looking at that pic.......... but it looks fine to me for the mileage, looks like there is some sludge build up around those black areas. Again, its hard to tell

what kind of oil do you run ?

have you done a compression test just for curiosity ?

Nope, I haven't done a compression test. Though they did one when I bought it for 1½ years ago, and the compression was good on all cylinders (12,5-13kg).

I run 5W-50 syntetic oil at the moment.

you can see a bit of wear on the cams and the oil looks black... i use 10 w 30 and sometimes 40.. my head is super clean..again im at 35k miles so maybe thats why. I guess comp terst is only way to tell. Looks normal to me.

i dunno my kl-de had 200,000kms and was way cleaner than that. maybe just do a compression test and an engine fluch or something to clean it all out.

I think it looks pretty good. I have seen much worse before. Looks like the oil has been changed regularly and it has never over heated. Both are good things.

Changed the oil today. Gonna do oil change two times per year now. I drive around 10,000km per year. The old oil was black. Maybe I should do a complete flush after the summer.
