Dam good quiestion.

Some insurers wont touch a car with a modded engine or transplant, some dont see any change and some insurance places specialise in cars that are owned by an enthusiast who loves their car. Because they think people who do work to their car will look after it much more.

As for which companies I have no idea, sorry. I think im paying way over the odds at the moment anyway. gona look at changing next time round.

Would be good to hear what evey one is paying and who with.

Try here http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/ They are one of the few who insure modified cars and usually have a decent rate.

The cheapest that I have found is HIC

Post by daryl »

The cheapest that I have found is HIC.

Herts Insurance (HIC)
01279 506090

They Quoted:
£611.22

For:
MX3 with
MX6 KLZE 2.5 engine swap
MX6 Gearbox
MX6 Cluch Assembly

I'm 25, with 2 yrs no claims, 3 points and I have only just passed my test.
(I passed 2 yrs ago but never posted it off so I had to do theory and practical again, but on my quote from them they put it down as having just passed with liscence held for 0 years.)

Adrian flux wanted £1450 and said that it would have been around £890 if I had not lost my liscence like I did.

All pirces are for Third Party Fire & Theft.

KLZE INSURANCE IN THE UK

Post by daryl »

HI,

BADMX3 - if you could give us an idea of what mods you have added and WHO you are insured with.

We are looking for KLZE prices really, but its always good to know a good place to get insurance for a 1.8.

cheers for the info daryl , seems as if your keen to get underway with the Ze project. ( if you need any advice drop us a pm )
My mx-3 ze insurance is due beginning of may so i will also be getting some quotes based on the mods in my signature below.
I have been told to definately try adrian flux, ( i see above it didnt work out for you !! )
With the quote you got did they ask for a engineers report to prove the modifications were road worthy ?? as ive heard some do ?
Ive also heard of some insurance companys putting specifics on brakes, ie uprated pads, discs. So you have better brakes to go with the increase in power.
Keep up the good work. :D

i'm insured with elephant. been with them a few years now. cis cancelled my insurance with them as they said they could no longer insure my car.

the parts i declared were all visual bodykit and carbon hood, as soon as i mentioned air filter and exhaust the price doubled, similar with uprated discs/ pads etc....

insurannce works in mysterious ways. a couple of years ago when deciding the engine i was going to buy i phoned loads of insurance companies who told me the mx3 with ze was too much of a risk. and the cheapest quote i got was ridiculous. so stupid that a normally aspirateed supra was cheaper and they'r still expensive for me even now.

Right heres a breakdown of what/ and who ive done so far.

Me; 25, 8 years NCD, low crime area, 6000 miles pa, no points, no accidents, no convictions. Uk full licence. driving since 10/98, aquired car on 12/2003. Social and commuting, electrcian.

Car, Mazda mx3. 2.5 v6 from mx6, uprated clutch, flywheel, sparkleads, air filter, battery relocation, engine polished, alloy wheels, suspension 30mm, dials, front brakes 325mm 4 pot calipers. ( alot of these didnt actually affect policy but i wanted to be sure everything was covered)
Security; Cobra Cat 1 ararm/immobilizer.

The contenders;

Herts Insurance co, 01279 506090
Adrian flux 08700 777888
Sky insurance 0870 1121759
Performance direct 0870 420 3896

results so far;

HIC to ring back monday after they have checked with underwriters
Adrain flux ( very busy will keep trying to get through )
Sky insurance ( again to ring back underwriters etc )
Performance direct......prepared to be stunned..................... £426.25 fully comprehensive, protected NCD. :D :D they have made my day.

Ive search loads of other sites and forums and the above are the contenders i kept coming across.

I will post up the rest of the results as i get them, but i cant see anyone beating the performance direct quote. :P

Im with HIC now, they will insure the car for like for like parts, and will agree a fixed settlement cost if the car gets writen off for £4000. ( just got to send in pictures and invoives for all the work/mods to get the 4K agreed cover.)

Thats it for me till next year, happy hunting guys !! :P

Just got my renewal quote through from elephant.co.uk and as a standard 1.8 Mx-3 they have quoted me £579 !!!. So all that extra bhp has actually saved me money...figure that out !!
