As far as i know - the 93 model was SOHC. So i thought you misspelled it. Anyway here's the link for DOHC

But before you buy it - make sure that your engine is a DOHC.

Aries is correct. If your car is a 93.. then the engine is a SOHC engine. Unless.. A) you have the year wrong. B) someone replaced the engine with a DOHC engine. In either case, to find the proper gasket.. you will need to provide more information as to what engine or year the car is.

If your car is a 93, and someone replaced the engine.. Did they replace it with a DOHC B6? Or with a DOHC BP engine? The gaskets will be different.

Easiest way would be to snap a digital pic and post it. But there is a obvious visual difference between the two engines. If its a BP, you will have a seperate black plastic timing gear cover. If its a B6, the timing gears and belt are covered by the valve cover itself. Likely though.. if it was bought at a junk yard and was just a direct swap into your car.. its going to be a B6 and the junk yard just didnt know what they were talking about as far as what year it came out of. If it was a BP, you would have had to change your tranny and the axles and ECU in order for it to work in your car. Cheers

Re: 1.6 dohc gasket

The last month or so of production in '93 had the DOHC. Actually I seen 2 versions of the DOHC. One with the old style log and branch intake manifold and the other with the usual long tubular manifold. who knows maybe they slipped in a few B5-DE in error.

Wouldnt that still make the car a 94 as far as year of sale? I mean.. my car has a build date of 11/93.. but the title of the car shows that the year is a 1994. Just curious.

according to tunes description it should be a b6. has valve cover over timing chain and gears. also exhaust manifold had stamp of - b6ck. engine had stamp on head of - b-551-5. be a relief if was b6 . i had no idea about bp needing that much chang. what did bp come out of?
and for yoda- my chiltons says that the 93 had only a sohc for the 93 model. so i dont know what to say. junk yard prolly mis labeled yr or sumtin cause engine is DOHC.

...also would 323 gasket kit fit that engine. as far as i know or can tell same engine. autozone has no FULL kit for the 94. but there is a side noe that says conversion kit and head kit can be used as full. and taht is somewhere around 180 total. so if the 323 kit will fit i have more options while searching.

check with http://www.rockauto.com very competitive prices there. I know that a full head gasket kit is available for the B6 since I bought one for my car around a year ago when I had the valvetrain redone on my head. I got it from a local place and it was a little over $100 US for everything. Included in the kit were: Cam seals, Head Gasket, Valve Seals, and a Valve Cover Gasket.

Just a tip though before you put your head back on. Run a tap down the head bolt holes and clean them out real good, then run a die over the threads on the head bolts. If you notice any chipping or deteriation of the threads, dont use the bolts, buy new ones. Also.. apply some light weight oil to the head bolt threads as you put them back in. This will help insure that you get an accurate torque spec when tightening the bolts. You can find more details on this stuff in the online shop manual though.. and its a LOT better than those little chiltons manuals. http://www.mx-3.com/95manual/index.cfm
Here is the link.. and yeah even if it is for the 95. its still almost identical for the 94 and even the 96 as well. (Though the 96 got OBDII.. but thats another story) Hope this helps.
