new engine

Post by mcfly »

well im pretty sure that my 1.6 sohc is fried and im looking to buy a new engine. nothing too expensive, i'd basically like to get another 1.6 sohc with somewhat little mileage on it. Im not looking for anything bigger then that because my life style requires me to travel alot so i'd like to keep gas money at bare minimum. Can anyone suggest where i should be looking to purchase one and how much it would cost? Im looking to spend between 600 and 800$
thanks

LOL I'm in pretty much the exact same situation. Drive 90 miles a day to work and just want something that will get me there and back. I tried posting on here but since you can't even post in the for sale/wanted section without 30 posts it makes it kinda hard. I didn't have any luck so i'm just rebuilding my 1.6 sohc (turns out it was only a broken exhaust valve anyway). Good luck.

If you have an ATX and dont want to convert to MTX or dont want to get another stronger ATX - then the best bet would be to get another 1.6SOHC

If you have MTX then you can get a BP engine from a protege or escort. I dont think there is a huge difference in mileage between the SOHC and BP. If you look at the swap pages in the faq/search - BP is almost bolt-on replacement and is probably easier and cheaper to find than the SOHC.

EDIT: Even MTX probably wont last long with a BP
